  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just recently noticed when I back out of my driveway and drive over a 2 inch lip, I detect a very noticeable thunk or crack. I immediately thought it was a Strut issue. Brought it to the dealership and they came back with no issues found. I plan on taking the mechanic for a ride at the next oil change in 700 miles.

I do recall back back in 2010 my Hyundai Veracruz had the exact same issues and Hyundai issued a recall to replace the upper strut covers and front suspension.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

Nope. No such noises on my 3.5 Prestige.

Did you ever get this sound figured out? I have the same issue on my 2021 GV80 the shop can’t figure it out

Nope. I had them check the sway bar and sway Bar link extension with negative results. The search continues.

I have had my Genesis at the dealership 3X and they cannot figure it out. Part of the issue is, I could not duplicate the problem. Since then, I noticed the same clunking noise occurs when I back up and turn the wheel all the way to right.

I had them check the Struts, Sway Bar and Sway Bar Extension Links with negative results.

The search continues unless someone else has the same issue and Hyundai is able to correct it.

They can hear the sound fortunately but even chassis ears haven’t located the issue. Had my car in service for a week as they only have 1 Genesis tech

At least they can hear it. How did you replicate it? Keep me informed if Genesis manages to repair it. Thanks

It’s an easy replication when driving over a pothole slowly. Clunk coming from front driver side

Could it be a control arm ball joint maybe? Seems most other chassis parts have been looked at but not much mentioned on upper or lower control arm ball joints? If the noise is bump dependent, finding the root cause with specific components may continue to be a bitch.

My issue is not necessarily bump related. Since October, I found if I am in a parking space level ground, back up and turn the wheel sharply to the right, I will get that clunking noise.

They used suspension ear’s basically a stethoscope to determine the noise. Now they are replacing both strut assemblies

Do let me know if the sound goes away after they replace the Strut Assemblies. Thanks

I have the same issue, rear right tire though. When backing out of the driveway I hear it as the car makes the transition from driveway to street. I also hear it at low speeds on bumps, and turns. When driving fast it disappears. The dealership installed a new strut last week. The sound initially was much better, but I still faintly heard it leaving the driveway. A week later it's back full strength and worse. Just getting ahold of my one local Genesis dealership is an exercise and the initial repair took 5 days. Not a fun cycle to be in.

I feel your pain. I have been dealing with this issue since NOV 2021. Dealership refuses to do anything unless they can duplicate the issue. Last month, I did the valet and when the Service Writer was backing out of my driveway she felt and hear the cracking noise. However, the Service Mgr is the first person in the chain to have to hear it and they have to duplicate for the Service Tech. Absolutely ridiculous and frustrating.

Can you advise since the replacement of the Strut Assembly did the noise go away?

My 2021 had the clunking noises, at 12000km they replaced the tie rod end and it fixed the problem. But it came back at about 25000km and now they are replacing the other one. Unfortunately was advised they had to order it attached to the steering rack. It is in now and am taking it in on July 3.

Is this sound similar to the sound that can happen over potholes with a faulty engine mount? Noises can be hard to trace sometimes and can seem to come from another direction. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee once that the dealer kept saying he could not replicate the sound. Six months later, after the new car warranty ran out, they did replicate it and got rid of the clanging sounds over bumps by replacing the engine mounts … and then charged me! It was too much of a PITA to fight the bad dealership.

Curious to know if replacing the Tie Rods fixes the clunking noise. Would you please let me know either way?

My clunking noise is while driving forward or backing into my driveway and turning over a 1 inch lip and the body flexes. Very difficult to diagnose because it doesn't do it all the time. I suspect it has something to do with the suspension. We'll see next week. I filed a formal complaint with Genesis to repair 3 items at the dealer; 1. Clunking Nose, Hard Kick when slowing down and the Navigation System.
