If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Genesis dealership that I use for service just had their Genesis franchise pulled as of Nov 1st. Hyundai only now. They said it was because they didn’t build a separate building for Genesis . They said I should use their sister store 12 miles away. They said they can’t do warranty work now for Genesis. Has anyone heard of things like this happening ?

Yes. About time they are able to get serious and build a decent network of Genesis dealers.

Actually it was a beautiful modern facility that opened less than 2 years ago. Definitely a step down from a Mercedes or BMW dealership , but nicer than most Hyundai . Are there even any stand alone Genesis dealerships in New York State ? I’ve never seen one.

I'm hoping that stand-alone dealerships, if many of them ever come, will help, but I had an odd experience last week when I finally went in to test drive the GV80. As I've mentioned before on these forums, I have a Lincoln Nautilus coming off of lease in 3 months, and have primarily been looking at the GV80 to replace it. Only other vehicle I've looked at is the MB GLE 450, though I haven't test driven it yet.

Back to the experience, I live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. The closest dealership to me that had any 3.5 Prestiges to test drive is in Bowie MD. It is a very large Hyundai dealership and had a lot of Genesis vehicles in stock. I started to wonder when I was exchanging emails with the salesman. I put in an inquiry online to Genesis of Bowie and got a response, and the salesman identified himself at the bottom as working at Ourseman Hyundai of Bowie. When I arrived at the dealership, there was no Genesis signage anywhere in the building. The brochures near the door were Hyundai only. It had the feeling of a scrappy mainstream high-volume dealership. At one point when I was waiting for the salesman to arrive for our appointment someone on the floor sold a car and literally every salesman in the building started ringing cowbells.

I asked the salesman, what the heck? He said that they didn't bother to put up any Genesis signs because they plan to build a Genesis facility across the road, and he pointed out a white building they plan to pull down to build the new dealership. I hope that's the case, because there is no way I would dare bring a Genesis into this facility for servicing.

I liked the car a lot. The seats felt a little hard, but they are well constructed and pretty wide, which is nice. When I came back from the drive the salesman said that they don't bother to try to match incoming cars with customers. Whatever comes in they sell. If I wanted a particular color or configuration I could let him know and he would call me if something ever came in that matched. I asked how they were pricing them these days. He replied, well above MSRP but it all depends on what the exact market price might be any given day. At that point, I walked away and said, "goodbye, nice to meet you."

Few, if any, have Genesis signs. Mistake, IMO.

Why would you not go for service? Are the techs trained? Did they lack a lift? Tools? Did you visit the service area? No matter the cowbells in the front, it is a couple of guys in the back that make it work right.

Good move running from that dealership. I bought a G80 from them from out of state during the spring . Worst car buying experience I ever had in my life. It took over a month to close the deal. They don’t return phone calls or emails. They got the sales contract wrong 3 times. They didn’t even process my paperwork until after my first paper was due. I was trying to make my first payment and Genesis never heard of me. Can you imagine? Two months later , the dealership came looking for the payment. And all that was without seeing them ring cowbells. However I did get a good price.

Where have you been that you expect to buy a high demand car these days for less than sticker price?

Yep, my Dallas Genesis dealer is no more either. About a year or so after I bought my G70 they gave up their franchise. Supposedly Genesis did not yank it, but the dealer quit on their own for they did not want to playball and make specific Genesis showroom updates. No sign there either. Most Hyundai dealers were all to happy to sell Genesis but cheap bastards when it came to investing or promoting the brand. I love my G70, but had I known before I bought about all the service and loan car issues folks are having via the Hyundai dealers basically, I probably would not have purchased.

And with that review you really think it was because they didn't have a sign. I wouldn't expect for them to say it was because we were a crumby dealership, would you? Furthermore two dealerships within 12 miles? Could be a better reason to close up than no sign if you ask me.

Genesis wanted to cull the weaker dealerships/those unwilling or unable to build out a Genesis facility.

Weird that the ownership group opted for a Genesis franchise for both of their Hyundai dealerships when they're so close to each other.

They had to know that Genesis would require some sort of build out - which would make zero sense to build 2 in close proximity to each other.

Meanwhile, where they closed mine, Long Island , NY, I don’t know of a stand alone Genesis within hundreds of miles. I think the plan should have been logically to shutter them once an alternate was built.

My closest is Vegas that wanted almost +10k market area adjustment when I was looking for my gv80. Victorville CA was the next closest. Over 300 miles away. Even they somehow managed to register my car to a state I have never lived in. I've bought plenty of new domestic trucks in the same price range and never had an issue with a dealer. As of now the Genesis experience is worth it based on the car. Hopefully I don't have any issues.

Genesis isn’t pulling franchises. Hyundai Dealers are just bailing. Not prepared for luxury market. Your local dealer decided he doesn’t want to be a genesis store. Franchise laws prevent him from servicing Genesis manufacturers warranty if he no longer has a Genesis dealership

Short term, a real PITA for customers. Long term, probably best for the brand and customers. Evolution to what Genesis wanted to do originally.

So I've only owned my G70 for about 5 months now now and had some some mixed experiences at Genesis/Hyundai dealers. The ones close to where I live are not very good and have already had to call corporate to have a simple issue resolved. Which they did to their credit. But I want to highlight an awesome experience I had at a dealer close to my dad's, which is unfortunately a little too far to make my normal place. Seriously contemplating just timing visits to my dad with maintenance, that's how great this place was. But anyways it's in a higher end community in Southern California and I knew I was in for a treat when all the other cars they serviced were Bentley, mazarati and some other exotics. I think it's awesome that they're putting genesis in that same company but did feel totally out of place, not gonna lie.

Just bought my G70 from the place mentioned in Bowie, MD... I actually live in FL and was specifically looking for a new blue 2021 G70 with all the bells/whistles and they were one of only four in the US I could find. The other dealers were charging above MSRP (~$55k), and this dealership had it for $47k. The dealership itself was not what I would call a well-oiled machine, and I was there for 4 hours, after already having agreed upon a price and basically just flew in to pick it up. HOWEVER, saving around $7k - $8k was worth it. They have called me a few times after the sale to see how everything is, so other than them being slow and a bit unorganized, I have no issues and love my new G70...

If you don't mind, it would help naming locations! I have yet to take my new g70 in for a service, but live in socal and it seems hit or miss around here. Thanks!

Sure, it was in Westlake Village/thousand oaks. I believe it's the only genesis in ventura County.

Oh and I don't know if I got lucky or not but didn't even have an appointment I just showed up 1st thing in the morning and they had me out in just under 2 hours.

That's awesome! Way too far for me to drive, but I'm glad to hear of positive experiences. I have 2 dealerships within 5 miles, I just don't have a ton of confidence in either of them these days. We will see!
