  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recently bought a 2018 G80 Sport with 4500 miles on it. I flew out to Cleveland and drove it back to Colorado (approx 1700 miles). After returning to Colorado with no problems at all, it started stuttering really hard on high acceleration and eventually flipped on the engine light. The code was a misfiring on Cylinder 5. My worry is that potentially either the previous owner or dealership had been putting non premium in it and driving it hard. I did not drive it hard once on my drive back from Cleveland so I have no clue if it had any issues prior. Eventually the check engine light switched off and it doesn't stutter as hard as the initial time but still enough to where I refuse to push it above 3k rpm. I have an appointment on the 10th to get it looked at but was just wondering if anyone has any potential diagnosis or similar issue? This is my first car over the price of 20k so I'm pretty worried about it lol. I really need peace of mind lol

Sounds like a bad spark plug or coil pack. Do you have 4500 miles or 45k miles?

4,500 when I bought it, now at approx 7,700 or so after driving back and having it two weeks.

Check the codes, go to AutoZone and they'll do it for free. It could be a bad coil pack, it happened to me at ~26k miles.

It was a misfire on Cylinder 5. The code went away shortly after and hasn't returned but the stuttering is still there so I'd imagine the same cylinder is misfiring. Is a bad coil pack a major type of maintenance or a few hours in the shop type of thing?

its an easier fix. could also be a bad plug.

any indication if original owner tuned it?

I believe it's not tuned

I believe your car should still be under warranty so I think it is a job for your dealer. Pretty sure that once you get this issue straightened out you will love the car. We certainly love ours.

Unfortunately my original dealer is 1700 miles away lol

If it's warranty work you should be able to take the car to any dealership.
Yep I have an appointment with my local one on the 9th. Just trying to see if I should expect the worse or if it's a common issue.

You should expect the dealer to give you a Genesis loaner and fix you car. Common or worse, who cares? The only difference to you should be that you drive their loaner for a few extra days...

Honestly, I'd be okay with any of them 😁

Updaye: Took it to my local dealership and was told everything was in parameters and to NOT put premium in it as I live in a high altitude area (Colorado) and that the compression ratio isn't suited for 91. I'm currently in the process of running out my gas to run 87 and see how that works, however, today I gave it a little gas and the engine light popped up again and while stopped at a red light, it was heavily vibrating until I turned the car off at which point it away.
