  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone! So I took delivery of my 2022 G70 last week. It is full on winter here in Alberta, so of course at one point I've taken my car to the car wash to rinse off the car and spray out the snow that was in the wheel wells.

However, when I sprayed off the inside of the rear wheel wells some paint came off REALLY easily. It was at the bottom on the back side towards the trunk.

Now for me it seems that this might have just been pieces that were missed either during the PDI or otherwise. Reason I am thinking that is it came off super easy, almost like it wasn't primed or had some paper behind it.

I know I should not be worried, but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

Thanks!

Wondering if it's the rear rotor coating. Mine came off the first time I pressure washed it. My rotors are rusted and pitted now.
Can you post a picture?

Nope it definitely is not the rear rotor coating. This was definitely paint.

I've got a picture, but there is snow already in the well. It is on the inside edge and there is no more paint hanging or loose.

Nope it definitely is not rotor coating. It was paint, without doubt.

I don't have the best picture but this is where it was, on the inside edge. There isn't any pieces left dangling or loose.

Guess I have never looked inside my wheel well area well enough to realize that area is painted? Most cars have a black rubberized coating in the wheel well area to absorb road noise and small rocks that get kicked up from the tires or they have a plastic wheel well liner. I’m due for a car wash so will pay more attention to my wheel areas when I’m washing.

Yeah that's why it was weird for me to find strips of paint inside the wheel well. Makes no sense to paint in there because it will get beat up by whatever the tires throw.

There is a lot of white plastic on these cars when they are delivered. On your white car, could it have been a piece that was missed during PDI and then blown off by the pressure wash?

Here’s what ours looked right off the truck:

That's also my other thought too. Like I said, it came off very easily. Actual paint on the body would not be this easy to remove. Especially on a brand new car. 😎

Washed my G70 this weekend so paid attention to the wheel well area. Other than some paint around the coil spring body area and paint on the fender lip, don’t really have paint inside the wheel area. Appears mostly black plastic wheel well liners. If you have some overspray maybe in this area, I’d be worried there was a paint repair made after the car was built. Robots paint our cars at the factory so there is no overspray on parts normally. Something seems odd with your paint in the rear wheel area? Is the paint on plastic parts or metal parts? Unless it’s paint coming off a metal area that is supposed to be painted, not sure I’d worry that much other than curiosity of what really happened?

The paint came off plastic parts. Honestly it seemed odd that there was extra paint there, but again it came off really easily. Just hanging there. I took the car to the car wash since and haven't had anymore come off or anything, so guessing it is just a one time thing. But I'll be keeping a close eye on it.
