  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wondering if anyone has compared both

In what sense. I have GV80 my sister has 2022 Palisade Calligraphy, they are apples and oranges.

But these videos might help.

What do you mean Apples vs Oranges. Both have same features

I guess if you are just looking on paper it might seem that way. It also depends on which trim level of the GV80 you are looking at in comparison. To me one is a luxury car and one is a more high end family car. There are reasons the GV80 is $30,000 more than the Palisade.

But what specifically do you think makes them the same?

Here's some of the things my GV80 has that her Palisade does not.

Remote Smart Parking Assist
21 Speaker Lexicon Sound System
Nappa Leather Seating Surfaces
Heated Second Row Seats
Ventilated Second Row Seats
Ergo Motion Driver's Seat
22" Alloy Wheels
Electronic Slip Differential
Power second row seats
Power second row sun shades
Power Door Closure
Road active noise cancellation
All Wheel Drive
Electronically Controlled Suspension with road preview
10 air bags including 1 between the driver and passenger
Power folding side mirrors
Auto defogging windshield
Acoustic laminated windshield and side windows
Power folding rear seats
Rear seat vanity mirrors

I'm sure there are others but just from looking at my GV80 brochure these are the ones that stand out.

But if you are looking at the bottom of the line GV80 and the top of the line Palisade they could come closer to both features and price. So at that point it comes down to the look of the car, and whether you need a true 3 row vehicle as the GV80 is not a true 3 row vehicle, the 3rd row is only for those under 5'7" in the GV80. The Palisade is about 7" longer than the GV80 I think it was when I looked at both and therefore the Palisade wouldn't fit in my garage. My GV80 only has about 2" to spare.

I can't compare to a GV80 as I've only sat in one, but I've driven a GV70 and my wife and I have owned a Telluride SX for 7500 miles (same basic vehicle as the Palisade). I've also driven a BMW X5 a fair bit.

First, the 3rd row in the Palisade is very usable for adults. The 3rd row in the GV80 isn't. Also, as nice as the Palisade's interior is, the GV80's is far nicer. As far as driving, I'll talk about the Telluride and say it drives very well for what it is. It's close to an Acura MDX and better than other cars in its segment like the Pilot and Highlander. It does not drive as well as the X5 by a significant margin.

The GV80 is designed to compete with those BMWs, is a rear drive based platform with a lot better suspension hardware, noise isolation/dampening, etc.

This is an apples and oranges conversation. Do you want a nice car that can haul 7 people somewhat comfortably or do you want a luxury SUV?

Just wondering if the Caligraphy model is worth $15000 less

It really depends on what you want. Have you ever driven something like a BMW or Audi? Do you care about the mechanical differences? If not, get the Hyundai.

While I agree with most of what you said, you are wrong on quite a few of the options.
The Palisade Calligraphy DOES indeed have : Nappa leather seats, heated and cooled second row seats, HTRAC AWD, acoustic laminated windshield and side windows, and power folding third row seats. In fact, the Palisade has at least two features the GV80 doesn’t offer: automatic leveling rear suspension and automatic trailer sway control. Combine that with roof side rails ready for cargo carriers, and you have a more capable towing vehicle than the GV80.

So, the differences in options between the two are not as great as you think.

If by "both have same features" you mean "one has the same features as the other, but the other has numerous features that one doesn't have," then yes, you are correct.

When speaking of value, one doesn't normally ask if something worth LESS. The correct way to phrase this would be "is the Genesis worth $15,000 more than the Hyundai?"

Yes, and that would include the non-visible items like suspension system, seating materials, drive train, that made a difference in driving.

Thank you I stand corrected on some of the features, I was referring to my sister's Palisade Calligraphy specifically and hers does not have some of the features that you've mentioned.

She did not opt for the AWD model although all of the online info says that AWD is standard hers is a FWD vehicle and all of the ones sold currently by where she purchased are FWD, I just checked their inventory.

I guess I didn't think her seating was Nappa because her Nappa leather seats are not nearly as nice as the ones in the GV80 nor do they smell like leather. My car is a year old and still when I open the door you get the waft of leather scent. Her Palisade is 1 month old and that is gone if it was ever there. I was just in it on Tuesday for over an hour.

I was under the impression that the Windshield was the only acoustic laminated glass in the Palisade.

My second row seats power fold but only her 3rd row seats power fold I guess that's because she has the captain's chairs.

Two different vehicles. One is Front wheel drive based and has a small engine. The other is RWD and large engine and much more powerful.

Huh? The Palisade has a larger engine than the GV80 at 3.8 liters vs. 3.5 liters in the Genesis. It’s not smaller, just makes less power due to lacking twin turbochargers.

I bought a 2020 Palisades Limited . It was burgandy with the white interior. My wife and I loved the car. Towed my 5000 lb boat and got a lot of attention. We have had over 50 cars in our life times. This was the best we ever owned.

One month ago the Genesis dealer gave us $46000 on trade in for a gv80 Advanced+. Palisades had 36000 miles but was flawless from the start.

We both miss the Palisades but like the gv80 ride, Driver assist is better , tech is plentiful. Both vehicles had plenty of power. The gv is heavier and drives more stable and safer at 80 mph. Think it is going to grow on us.

We just think we got a good deal.

For the record we have been screwed over by GM, Ford , Toyota , Nissan over the years. Bought an Equus in 2010 , santa fe in 2004 , Palisades in 2019 and now the Gv80 . We will buy the G90 when available.
We found nice cars, good prices , excellent service , why would we go anywhere else?

P.S Just the thoughts of too 70 year old experienced drivers.

Experience matters. It’s why I picked the GV80 as my first car. If I’d been uninformed by my own opinion that a car is solely meant to get you from point A to B, I’d probably be in a second-hand Camry right now.
