  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Happy new owner here! Picked up a 2022 G70 3.3 SP in Irvine today and drove home to SD in the rain. Didn't get to open it up too much, but did dive a little into the tech. This thing is amazing! The tech, the power, the looks, it's such a great package.

Anyone want to share something they should have known first day, but took a while to figure out? Useful threads that aren't already stickied? I'll be digging though this forum and owners manual tonight.

My last new car (original and still proud owner) a 2004 VW R32

Looking forward to the Genesis community experience and all the info here.

Congrats, you're going to love it for sure. I'm in SD too. No real tips for you other than to enjoy it. I'd say get the windows tinted for sure. Good luck.

Thanks!
Yes, tint is absolutely the first thing. Any referral to share? A buddy of mine just recommended a guy in Kearny Mesa. Second is I’m considering debadging or rebadging the trunk, but can’t seem to find any pics of the newer G70s
Speaking of trunk, how is everyone closing there’s? My other car has a handle inside you can use as to not touch the paint. Maybe a strip of clear bra is in order.

I had mine tinted at AMB Auto Glass & Window Tinting on Mission Gorge Rd. They did both my Charger and my G70 and I think they did a great job at a fair price. Ask for Martin, he'll take care of you.

As for the trunk, I have a 2021 and it has an interior handle like you describe on the right side. Not sure if the 2022 is any different, but check the right inside of the trunk.

Sure enough, there’s IS a handle. Must have been dark last night. Or maybe it was the rain. Gotta blame something for that brain fart.

Those guys are close to me, will check them out. Thanks!

Welcome to the club! Just purchased my Uyuni white 3.3 awd w black interior a few weeks ago. 😀

Oh man, one of the last coveted VWs. Can't go wrong with that engine, at least with the sound. 😉
Had a mk7 R before this and absolutely loved it but loving this car even more.

Few immediate, smaller things I noticed so far.

The speedo goes in increments of five until up to 40 then it goes by 10.

The reverse mirrors can be set to only have one side instead of both go down when in reverse from what I can tell. Kinda nice.

You can only open your windows by remote, not close them. A lil diff if you obded your vw car so it also does with keyfob.

Privacy and valet modes are very nice to have in the settings. Privacy limits what people see from your phone info. Valet mode is awesome where it limits certain things from happening or just overall with someone else driving.

The side bolsters can wrinkle very easily from what I can tell. Get a good leather conditioner asap. My mk7 was opticoated inside so not sure if that really helped on preserving the leather bc when I sold it, it had little to no wrinkles in it. Idk.

Hope this helps, sure you'll find more little things here and there, ymmv too.

Enjoy, cheers!

Congrats on the new purchase! IMO the mk7 R is the best looking version since the mk4. Still not sure how I feel about the mk8. I do however, love the Arteon, and would have seriously considered getting one if there were any around. They're upgrading the motor and tranny for 2022, but from what I hear are a ways out from being available. I do look forward to a test drive when they come in.... A white Arteon and Black R32 in the driveway would look nice:)

Thanks for the tips!

Good to know about the mirrors... I think I'd prefer if the drivers side stayed put and passengers side went down.

Yes, I have the OBD flash for the "Audi" behavior. One of my favorite mods.

Regarding the valet mode, it says that it logs the top speed of the drive, but d we know if it limits the vehicle in anyway? Like is sport+ not available? Just curious, sure I can figure it out/read more.

You're not kidding, I did already notice wrinkling in the leather. Will be conditioning and sealing ASAP. I had asked the dealership not to apply any dressing as I'm OCD about that stuff. I prefer to do detailing myself.

Merry Christmas!

The mk7 was my first VW and after reading, I found out it is and likely will be touted as one of the best gen of R/gtis out there. And I can see why firsthand. 😀

Mk8 really was lackluster imo. I do not like the interior at all, maybe I will someday but, capacitive buttons are a big no for me in a car.

Lol, funny you mention the Arteon. That was one I was cross shopping. Took one for a test drive and left deflated. Interior similar to my then mk7 and lackluster engine. I really hope they beef up the current engine but I guess that would be cannibalizing their Audi brand. Idk.

I'll have to look into valet and privacy mode more too but from first quick usage it seemed practical to use in daily driving.

What leather conditioner/sealer will you be using? I need to do mine asap too, lol.

Merry Chrsitmas to you as well!

I think you're right about the Arteon and canabalizing A5 sportbacks. But I think VW realized they couldn't ask that much for a car under 300hp. That being said, would have loved an RS5 Sportback! lol Actually my dream car is the RS6 Avant...but I'd even settle an RS3 if we got the hatchback version. If one of those cars were on the table I might even sell my R32!

As far as the leather, glad you asked because it got me thinking. You can't go wrong with Colourlock products, they make some of the best leather care for furniture and car interiors.

There's a couple of detailing channels I follow on YT, "pan the organizer", "apex detailing", and to a lesser extend "obsessed garage". They have lots of info on their favorite products including ceramic coatings for leather.

Long story short, we don't want to "condition" our new leather since modern leather have a thin plastic coating from the factory...so any conditioner will just sit on top and transfer to clothes. I'm glad I asked the dealership not to use any dressings when they prepped the car. So best practice for new leather is clean and seal. Most sealants last 2-3 months while a coating will last up to a year. I think I'll just seal for now. Had purchased a colourlock kit for my R32 that I may repurpose so I can get her done soon...maybe even today.

Otherwise I'd probably be looking at CarPro or Gyeon products. How bout you?
