If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello folks,
I thought the slanted edge of the hood towards the windshield was a nice touch along with the wipers that tugs in when it's off.
But yesterday, as I was leaving work, I noticed that the slanted portion that angles towards the driver reflects the scorching sun and blinds me.
I literally had to shield the sunlight with my hands in order to drive.
My car being Platinum Silver didn't help either.

Now that I've come to think of it, I don't think I've seen another car that has this slanted edge on the hood.
Except for the reflection from that chrome handle on the hood of a Hummer H2, which is a major pain in the a$$.

Anyone else had this problem when driving?

I've also had the sun reflect off that edge, but it happens so seldom, I don't worry about it.

Happens less often then when I'm following a car that has the sun reflecting off their rear window, and there is nothing I can do about them changing the angle of the rear window of the car in front of me. :D

Good point.
But that reflection from my hood was pretty severe yesterday, I had to make a right turn and take a different road.
Oh well, what I can I say. I love this car anyway.

Never noticed it in 22 months of ownership and we get 300 days of sunshine a year. :)

Well, in that case, I guess I should stop b!tching.
It must have been that one isolated case where the sunlight coincidentally hit the exact spot to have it reflected to my eyes. :)

It was the first time for me also, and again, I'm sure my paint color had something to do with it as well.
I'll leave the office at the same time and will see if I get the same reflection on that road.

If you got that on your way home from work, that is not good since it may happen again. But it could also depend on the time of year and the angle of the sun at that time. I had it happen happen once or twice, and it is rather severe. I would carry around some sunglasses.

Never had this happen to me here in Seattle :D

This has happened to me once - yes it is annoying, no I don't think I know of any other car with that design "feature", and now I know why!

I've never noticed any problem.

Wouldn't any hood design reflect light into the driver's eyes under some sun positions?
Check out the lip on the hood of the Genesis (near the windshield wipers). To get reflection off the flatter part of the hood, the sun would have be very low in the sky, so low that sun in your eyes (direct without any reflection) would be a bigger problem.

Exactly. A hood design slanted towards the front of the car wouldn't have problems like this.
Only when it starts to angle towards the driver, you get reflections.

I did the same test yesterday, at the exact same time and road, and got the severe reflections again.
It was 6:10PM EST here in Troy, MI driving west bound.

Hmmmm....now I'm gonna be checking for reflections every time I drive. Is it one of those things that once you notice it you can't un-notice it?

I wonder if some kind of polarizing tape could be applied to the bottom of the windshield that would block the glare? Personally, I've not experienced it yet with our black car but I can't recall driving towards the setting sun either. I have had, as others mentioned, light reflect off the chrome or windshield of a car I was following and nearly blind me, but in that case I could back off or go around the person. Kind of tough to do that when it's coming from your own car.

No - its either there or it isn't. Its like someone flashing a light in your eye - its not just an annoyance, its a distraction.

Like Sayantsi said, it either happens or it doesn't.
If you're asking, that means you haven't had this case.
It blinds you pretty bad. As I said earlier, I had to block the light with my hands.

Frequency of problem is not the point. It is simply pointing out how to make the car better. Hopefully someone at The great Hyundai will notice and actually care what a consumer says.

True. I think Hyundai WAS trying to make it better.
I, too, thought the edge was a nice design touch.
But apparantly, they didn't think about the reflections. :(

Have noticed it on several occasions on my 2013. Wife noticed the same thing but just not as pronounced. Happens more when the sun is directly overhead. Could be I notice more because I'm taller, maybe the way I have the seats adjusted....not sure. Not a problem just more of an annoyance. Never had a car that did this before.

I now carry a small black towel or washcloth that I bought at Walmart and throw on the dash if that happens.
