  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Currently looking at a 2015 Genesis, anyone know the pros and cons of this vehicle? 56k km for $26k CAD, has a clean CARFAX and one owner. Previously looked for a Lexus IS350 but what I've seeing were a bit higher than my budget of $28k max. Thanks for your input.

Pros: Powerful V8, luxurious, super quiet ride, a great highway cruiser, all the amenities, all the driver nannies.
Cons: better get AWD for Canada, otherwise winter weather can be tricky. Depreciated very fast.

Cons: unless you're super handy, this is a dealer-only machine. Many, many expensive modules. You need the Hyundai GDS to do a lot. This car also eats tires and tires are expensive. You're not likely to get more than 30,000 miles out of a set of tires. Also, gas mileage is what you would expect for a 420 HP V8 in a 4700 pound car.

Known issues: drivetrain sounds between 28-35 mph until car warms up. Opinions vary but I think it's a flex coupler. The backup camera tends to go out because of a wire harness in the trunk, the third brake light rubber seal goes (inexpensive fix), the rear seat backing detaches (easy diy fix), the rear trunk hatch rubber tends to go (not too expensive to fix), paint quality in general seems a bit iffy on these cars imho, the panoramic sunroof tends to explode and/or not work.

that price is $20,557 in USD, which would be an absolute steal in the US market for that low mileage if in good condition. I have had dealers offer me more than that for mine with 102k km on the clock and only RWD, one minor accident (parking lot ding/dent).

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
"drivetrain sounds between 28-35 mph until car warms up" - this I have from the 0 mile, it was a little rattle when you put your foot of the gas in these speeds or going with it, after warming everything ok no sounds or problems over 100k miles. I didn't bother dealer about that.

Seems to be a thing w/ AWD cars - never have heard a thing from my rear drive 5.0.

Is this a Canadian car? If so, it will be AWD - they were only sold in Canada with AWD. It also has a heated steering wheel and heated back seats in addition to the regular heated/cooled front seats.

Drivetrain noise that has been described as a fluff sound has been tracked down as a problem with the driveshaft. Hyundai replaced affected ones under warranty. Mine has never been an issue.

It's been a great car and still looks and drives like new. I'd recommend it.

$25k is a good price. I traded mine in to the dealer for $16k and they tried to sell it for $25k. Listing was up for a week before it was pulled. Mine had about 110k km on it, roughly 70k miles. There were 2 other private sales that are still listed for about the same price with less mileage. I'm guessing the dealer exported it to the US.

Yes, they depreciate fast but I feel that initial hit may have passed after 5 years and they're hovering around market value. When I picked it up, it had 10k km and I got it for $15k off retail. About $50k in early 2016. Lost another $25k over 5 years. At this point, it'll still depreciate but I don't think it'll drop as fast. If you own it for 5 years, it'll probably drop another $7-10k. I'm going to experience the same thing with my G90... I picked it up for $60k with only 5000kms on it back in September, it retails for $90k if you want some idea of how fast the values drop. Don't buy a Genesis brand new... lol

Terrific deal, I got mine last year this time for $22k at 49km so i'd wager you could probably haggle a bit on the price but I also acknowledge the car industry is in a different place now than it was a year ago.

In the last year I've had a blown subwoofer (bought it like this), a defective multi function switch, bad driver side front door weather strips, and a rattle on the dome lights.

For 49km I wouldn't expect these but lucky for me warranty covered the sub, and my extended covered the switch. I would still make the purchase again that's how much I love this thing.

It's been said but it will drink gas, it needs to be serviced at the dealer (genesis dealer is better), and it will eat through tires which is rough considering the staggered wheels in less than common sizes.

For you though, I came from an IS350 while yes it was older than what you are looking at they have used largely the same platform for it for 16 years now.

The genesis is bigger, more comfy, more quiet, sound system is miles better(if that's important to you), about as quick(depends on the year), and likely not as reliable.

The IS will be more fun but less practical. I made the switch literally because I couldn't fit a cooler in my trunk on a camping trip but it also used significantly less gas.

For me the genesis is a much better buy especially if it's actually cheaper than the lexus. I say this as an unashamed Lexus fanboy fully admitting I will likely end up in an IS500 at some point as a second car

Lexus/Toyota make great cars and reliable for the most part. But, I just found that they didn't have any "soul". BMW's have that soul, but cost an arm and a leg to repair and will eventually leave you stranded.
