  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone, I was driving back home from Seattle downtown today and a sudden pothole on a circular on ramp blew out my driver side tire. I was going maybe 35mph at best but the pothole was very sharp and deep. The thud immediately got me worried and a couple of seconds later the TPM came on.

Genesis concierge was great and immediately sent AAA. I switched out to the spare and dropped off the tire at Les Schwab. The technician informed me that the side wall was ruptured and it’s beyond repair. I have some questions now that I need new tires:

1. I have 5000 miles on the car. Do you recommend switching all four tires or just the damaged one?
2. If I have to change all four tires is there a better tire I could get? I live in the PNW, lots of rain through the year. There’s also year round snow in surrounding areas if you’re outdoorsy (I am).
3. I didn’t get the tire and wheel package, I think. If so, do you recommend using my insurance for the tire replacement?

Any other suggestions or things to keep in mind are welcome :)

Sorry to read about your ruined tire! Maybe it’s a silver lining? I also live in PNW, I switched out my tires to the Continental DWS06+ and I love them! If you want driving impressions, check out this thread:

You didn’t specify what size wheels you have, so if they’re the 21’s these wont work.

Unfortunately they’re the 21 inch ones on the sport prestige. It’s 255 40 R21 :(

Maybe the Mukilteo les Schwab still has my tires with only 800 miles on them? You’d probably get a discount.
Brain fart! Those are 19’s.

Did you get it fixed?
My tires are out of stock everywhere. Hyundai of Kirkland has placed an order for one. They expect it to be here sometime next week. Unfortunately this dealer has the worst customer service I’ve seen at a car dealership and they’ve been tough to work with. Hopefully my tire comes on time.

You may have already checked but did you try Tire Rack ?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Tire rack does show other tires that fit being available . You might consider buying 4 tires . When the OEM tire becomes available get that and keep the 4 OEM tires to replace the new ones when they wear out . This assumes you plan to keep the carfor a few years . Just a thought .
Yes, they weren’t coming any faster than at Genesis. Decided to stick with the service cen

That’s a great idea! You could even put some 18’s on with 255/50/18 size tires and the circumference would be the same 29”‘s as the 21’s. That would be sweet!

So no damage to the rim? One of the reasons I favor the 19” rims are the worries of damaging the 21’s.

I have to say as much as I love the look of the 21"'s the wheels are very susceptible to curb scrapes. The outer rim is exposed and I am ashamed to say I have rashed 2 wheels trying to park away from idiots.

Here in the northeast, potholes are a serious winter concern when it comes to low profile tires. I wish you could order higher end trims without the bigger wheels. It's the same issue with the Lexus NX and BMW X3 also. Order the better equipped or sportier trim and the low profile tires come with it.
