  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just ordered a G70 2.0T AWD Prestige which is set to arrive in late March, and I do think that it doesn’t utilize its 252 hp very well. That being said, i chose this over the 3.3TT because I’m not looking or a performance car since this is going to be my daily which I’d like decent fuel economy in. However, the tuning of the dynamics is still a bit too laid back, and for a sporty sedan that competes with a 330i, I’d prefer for the tuning to be a bit more aggressive. The torque isn’t that accessible low down in the rev range either which isn’t that great. I’m also considering getting a JB4 tuner and setting the ECU to Map1 so I can run it on standard parts and keep my 5 year warranty.
Does anybody have any tips on what I should do or what kind of experience they’ve had with their tuned 2.0T’s?

since you weren't looking for big HP numbers, i expect you'll be satisfied with JB4 Map 1 or 2. it'll elevate the performance to more than bridge the gap you mention. then you can set it back to Map 0 for when the wife drives it.

Just curious....what was the price difference between a 3.3 and a 2.0? I mean after all the performance add-ons on the 2.0?

Well this is actually the first car I’ve ever bought. I’ve been driving one of my parents’ cars precious to buying the G70, being a 2016 Honda Civic Touring 1.5t. I always like to fully spec a car in whichever trim that I chose, so in this case, I chose the 2.0t prestige which was around $5k less than the 3.3tt sport prestige. But again, I’m still 18 and I didn’t want to pay for such expensive insurance with that 6 cylinder, plus costs of the fill ups would add up to a lot of money.

Thanks for the advice. I’m actually 18 so I don’t have a wife haha. But my parents would drive the car from time to time too so that’s a good idea!

That's good. I was just wondering if it would make more sense to just order the 3.3 and run it stock instead of the 2.0 + mods. I see your point about saving on insurance considering your age with the lower displacement engine, but there is going to be negligible difference in fuel savings on a tuned 2.0 vs a stock 3.3 unless you drive the 2.0 like a Prius.
But hey! If you want to take it as a challenge to squeeze the max out of the smaller engine, then go for it! Just don't mention this to the dealership.
P.s: you might want to do some research on the Theta 2, Transmission and the rear diff as all three are different in the 2.0 vs the 3.3. there may be some design limitations on the max power handling.

^ pretty sweet 1st car! props for trying something off the beaten path, shows some real maturity. most younger guys would look at pimping a clapped out G35 or something. ha ha.

my first car was a 14 year old Jetta GLi with 190,000kms for $2k. lol

1951 Chevrolet. Engine blew due to my malfeasance. Then 1961 Chevrolet. It lasted a year and absorbed the abuse I provided and went on to another life after one year with me. Auto life went wayyyy up from there.

I thought the idea of a newer driver driving a fancy car was absurd until I moved to where I live now.
Kids around here drive G wagons.
I've been to the High School parking lot during school hours, and the kids parking area have significantly nicer cars that the staff parking.
Sigh...

I'm not a big spender, and cars are my passion, so I think it was worth saving up for this car!

A lot of immigrant kids are really rich, I knew a lot of kids from my high school that drove Teslas and M3's to school. I've been saving up a long time, and I'm taking 5 courses at SFU and working 2 jobs in order to pay for the G70, so I'm hoping that it'll be a good decision.

Good for you if it all works. Nothing wrong with ambition. The G70 is good car but if you do a tune, just don't do anything crazy. Nothing wrong with a high performance car but I know a few people that joined the Air Force or Marines after losing their license.
End of father/grandfather speech.

Haha thanks for the advice! I’m planning on just getting stage 1 so I don’t need to get aftermarket parts. My goal is to get the G70 to drive as well as the numbers make it sound.
