  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay, so i got a 2015 3.8 sedan rwd used. The assembly date of the vehicle was march of 2014. My question is, is there anyway I can know if the governor limit was taken down from 155 to 130 as part of that tire recall way back without having to go and try to drive the car fast?

There is only one way to find out.:)

Find an open road without traffic and go for broke if you really need to know the top speed of your car. However, is it that important to know if the car can go 155mph or 130mph?

If so, you would have already tried to find out like any speed demon would have. However, it do not seem like you want to drive a car that fast for whatever reason; so why concern yourself with the 3.8 top speed?

It's not worth the risk. Too many "what if's". .. Like a tire blowout.

If you do, just make sure the car is in great mechanical shape and you're sure there's no one else around.

I've had little reason to go much more than 110 in my 5.0 - Did touch 120 one time in West Texas though. 5.0's are limited to 145.

Car And Driver stated top speed for a 2015 early build (article printed 04.14) V6 RWD was 149 (gearing limited).

The 2015 3.8 V6 model has some respectable performance numbers for a large sedan without a V8 or force induction. LOL; given enough highway a 3.8 will eventually walk down a 5.0.:)

Do you seriously think there is any chance that a stock 3.8 could even get close to 155? Really?

Well, it is supposed to reach 149mph per Car and Driver. So it can get close to 155mph on a long long long stretch of highway. Hell, it may hit 155mph on the same long stretch of highway going down hill.:)

I understand they said it, but I still find it hard to believe....

I do as well. Maybe 130 max, and that would be a long wait.

300hp and an 8 speed transmission can propel a car over 150mph given enough road. It may take a while, but it is possible.

The older 2005 sonata V6 with 170hp can reach 144mph in a long term C&D test. So a 300hp sedan could hit a 155 mph top speed in the right situation.

I have had my 2016 Genesis 3.8 cruising at 135mph several times. I may just push it next time and see where she electronically cuts out.

I have checked on mine, when it was new, no more than 250km/h on the dash :)
after 230km/h start to be unpleasant to drive, but you can cruise with 200km/h without any issue.
safety systems work until 181km/h - LKAS, ACC, after that automatically disengaged.

You'll probably have to do it in sport mode.... with the deep overdrives in this transmission at the top end, staying in a lower gear will likely yield the highest speed as you can keep the revs up where it makes the most power.

That's probably why Car and Driver said the 3.8's top speed was gear limited, not drag limited.

Cruising at 200k/125m may not have issues with the car but there are other issues to be considered. Seems like the uniformed guys frown upon it. Probably because they don't have a Genesis.

I really don't understand your post?
You want pictures of my garage??? 🙃
Why you think there are issues to be considered when you have good autobahn?
Videos for you when my car was new and I was testing

Did not notice Bulgaria. We don't have that luxury in the US. Enjoy!

125 MPH seems to be about as fast as my brain wants to go. Beyond that, I start having thoughts of tire blowouts, deer crossings, cops, road debris, old farmer's truck pulling out in front of me... etc. I got my '09 G37 to a hair over 130 once, but that was enough for me. It was still climbing, but slowly.

yes, I know you don't have that in US.
In Europe is absolutely normal to drive on autobahn with speeds like 140-160-180km/h. Every autobahn is absolutely surrounded with tight fences, so animals or other creatures can't go on the track.
Only in Croatia or Romania somebody can pull you out from the road if you are speeding. In other countries, the cops are doing speed traps with cameras, and if you are speeding in a point of the autobahn, they make you photos and sending you the ticket by the mail. You need to pay it in period of time and mostly if you pay in the first 7 days you receive 35% off the penalty.

That's a really good point. In the US here I have never felt safe going faster than 125 too. My '15 5.0 is plenty capable of going 150. . At 105, it's quiet and you feel like you're going 80. But there are too many dangers (like you mentioned above) once you get above 120. Too much you can't anticipate.

Indeed... last year during a trip in West Texas, I hit a tumbleweed while doing a 100+ mph pass in my 5.0 - The tumbleweed absolutely exploded! Didn't leave a mark on the car, but it sure got my attention!
