  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, I am new here and this is the issue I am having.
I was idling at a stop light, I was in neutral, when I put the car into drive, there was a slight two second delay before it went forward but all was well.
Later on, my dash lights lit up, turned off and i rolled to a stop, the car would not engage into drive.
The shift selector shows "N" when I put it into drive. The shift selection behaves normally in park, reverse, neutral, but when I put it into drive, the car wont go forward and the selector says it's in neutral "N".
Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure I can help you, but for those that can, you may want to add how many miles you have on the car. Assuming the 3.8. That may trigger some known issues that may have occurred to others at similar mileage. Does the car start and go into reverse? Maybe a linkage problem

Check the inhibitor switch for proper function. Pictures/info from the 2012 A8TR1 transmission repair manual.

I had a similar issue and the shifter would get stuck from times time there is a bushing with the cable connect to the arm on the transmission and the bushing gets rusted and will not rotate freely, causing the shifter to bind up and preventing you from selecting gears. Your shift cable may have also come loose from the arm on the transmission and if the alignment is off the car won’t quite know what gear it’s in.
