  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello~
I posted this before but somehow fell out of the system.

My antenna cover came off and it will be over $800 to replace.

I see covers only available for other cars but I'm unable to find specs for mine.

If someone could please measure yours and send me the specs perhaps I can find one the same size online.

I contacted Genesis and they told me to talk to the dealer who told me $800 is the only option.

Thank you in advance for you help. Hapee

I'm assuming that includes labor as well? How does it break down as far as parts and labor? Most of the antenna's are $250-$300 by themselves, and it's not that hard to replace. Have to drop the headliner to access the nut that holds the antenna on.

Thank you John for your reply. $228 part - 4 hours labor.

I'm a 73 female so I need good instructions on how to drop the headliner.

The cover came off of my 2015 Cadenza (looks like the same one as on my 2018 G80). All the screw bosses had broke. I used some automotive gasket RTV to glue it back on. That was a couple of years ago, and so far so good. I'll try to remember to measure them tonight.

Thanks, I would appreciate that

To show you how out of touch I am;
I always thought that the Shark Fin is just a cover, covering the actual antenna. How wrong I was. Never knew there was actual electronics as part of the fin.

Hey, I thought so, too - the link Joegr provided is just a cover - for $9. No way that includes the antenna.

Maybe Genesis sells it as a kit.

Genesis only sells the complete antenna assembly, which includes the plastic cover already screwed on. The active antennas are in the base part of the shark fin. The plastic cover protects them from the elements.

Okay, the shark fin on my 2018 G80 is 3.02" wide at the back and 5.93" long. It is 2.62" tall at the back.
I thought that the one on my 2015 Cadenza was exactly the same, but is is only 5.41" long (the other measurements do match though). For this reason, I am no longer sure that the one I linked will fit.

I also notice that the one on the G80 is even looser than the last time I checked. The one I glued back onto the Cadenza is still very tight. I wonder if I should go ahead and snap it off (and then glue it back on) of the G80 before I lose it...

Bummer, I now see screws snapped off so I'm not even sure how to put a cover on if I find one.

Thank You for your help.

Like I said, the same thing happened to the one on my Cadenza. I used automotive gasket RTV to glue the cover back on. I used some masking tape to hold it in place for the few hours that it took for the RTV to set. That was two plus years ago, and it is still on very tight.

Thanks, still trying to find one the same size

Curious how it came off - did something hit it, or maybe a car wash? Guess I didn't realize you didn't have the broken cover.

Car wash - loud cracking or crunching noise and machine went down. Actually thought the machine broke. I guess machine malfunction falls under the disclaimer too.

In a hot climate, the plastic gets brittle and the bosses on the cover break. It feels like most of the ones on one side of mine already have broken, and one on the other side. Before going though the car wash with my Cadenza, I reached up and felt the shark fin cover on it to make sure it was okay, and it came off in my hand. (So, the car wash was delayed by a few days).

I bet if you go out and wiggle yours, you'll find at least one corner that lifts up slightly.

I'll check out out. I do recall a local car wash that puts painters tape over the antenna covers before running them through. Not convinced it would stop the forces in play, but they can say they tried.

So the key takeaway here is that if your Genesis antenna cover comes off, make sure you find it and secure it because that little piece of plastic will cost $800 to replace. It's a $10 piece of plastic paired with a $790 antenna.

Just went out and wiggled mine and just like you said one corner lifts up slightly. Can I leave it as it and apply the RTV or do I need to remove the cover (or does the base need to come off too)? How would I remove it, just force it off and break the screws or go from underneath and remove the headliner? Neither sound like attractive options. Can just the cover and not the electronics be removed?

Yeah, I don't think there are any good choices here.
To remove the cover without breaking anything, the headliner has to come down. The screws that hold the cover come up from the base, and you can't get to them with it mounted to the car.
You could try to just squeeze some RTV (or other adhesive) into the loose corner. Of course, eventually the rest of the bosses are going to break too.
You could try to wiggle the cover enough to break all the other bosses, so that then you could glue it back on really well. I guess there is some risk that the cover might crack when you do that.
I think I'm going to watch mine really closely till there is just one or two bosses left, then pop it off and glue it back on.

Thanks for your thoughts. I think I might try to the loose corner now. I have some field engineers I work with and see what they think too. I wonder if the RTV is weather proof? At this point water is already getting in there and no adverse reactions so far.

What is actually under the cover just the AM/FM antennae or is it the sat antennae too? Does it have anything to do with bluelink?
