  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Need help, wanting to get an aftermarket cold air intake, but the reviews aren't great. Leaning towards a KN air filter for my 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8. Any suggestions.

I would just buy the drop in panel filter. I assume that the gain in power will be similar with a possible edge in gains going to the cold air system since it does removes much of the restrictive factory resonator setup.

Most non-turbo engines do not pick up more than about 15hp on the high end(not common, but possible) with an air filter swap depending on how restrictive the factory air induction system is and how much the stock ECU can adjust for additional airflow. However, most realistic gains are about 1-5hp flywheel on smaller( 4 cylinder) non-turbo engines and about 10-15hp flywheel on larger non-turbo(V6 and V8) engines.

No one ever really dyno the Genesis sedan non-turbo engines enough to get a good read on how the ECU reacts to an performance air-filter for any real data to go by. One dyno pull here and there located online is not going to be very accurate since dyno calibrations and corrections varies by each dyno station used.

The best way is to just try them both and see how well your engine responds to each one based on your "butt" dyno. Just stick with the one you like the best on the road.

If you solely rely on this forum for answers good luck since you will get many varied replies based on individual opinions that may or may not apply to your car and driving conditions.

I was on same boat for my 2009 3.8.

Just coming from dyno,
drop-in filter add about 3-4whp with secondary charcol filter removed from stock airbox.
then replaced oem intake pipe to smooth silicone hose, another +6whp were seen on same dyno.

Thanks for the responses and advice, it has been a little over a year and I have since installed an AEM cold air intake. I have noticed some improvement in acceleration not considerable. Although she does have a nice growl when I get on the accelerator.
