If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, guys.

I've searched some other forums and some people say that the relay

harness is needed. HOWEVER...as you guys know, the battery is in the

trunk. How do I connect the relay harness from the battery all the way to

the front...?

BTW....

Is there anyone who installed any HID conversion kit W/O relay harness ?

Has anyone who installed HID kit w/o relay harness had a problem at all ?

Also...

What is going to be the best HID conversion kit for my genesis ~?

I don't believe you will need the relay harness for the headlights at all.

I did however need the harness when I installed HID in my fog lights, since the stock fog light system doesn't push enough power. I just connected the relay harness to the jump posts located under the hood, but cut off the relay connectors and used alligator clips:)

Thanks a lot !!

Really good news to me :)

Thank you again :)

A relay is normally required when the existing wiring or switches are undersized for the new load. The beauty of hid is they are more efficient and only draw only 35 watts compared to 55/60 on a conventional halogen system so no you do not need any relay. Plug and Play.

To clarify what "Midnightsun" said, HID's use less power during regular operation but actually draw more power than conventional lights during startup. If the stock wiring does not provide enough power the HID's will not light. This is when a relay is needed. In the case of the Genesis the stock wiring works fine.

Just as another data point, I ordered a relay for installing my HID foglights. For whatever reason, there was a delay in receiving the relay due to an unanswered question from the seller on eBay, but since I took my car to an automotive electric specialist to have them installed, I figured I could just buy one from them at installation time (they said they had them available).

Oddly enough, they told me that the relay wasn't required and the fogs fire up just fine. Go figure. I'm sure it has something to do with which ballast you get, etc. To be on the safe side I'd spend the $7-15 on the relay. Just be advised that it may not be needed.

How much did you pay for the labor?

I will take my genesis to the shop if it doen't cost too much :)

BTW..

I've already ordered DDM HID conversion kit based on the price and many positive reviews.

Thanks for all your answers; midnightsun, disaster and aquineas :)

junhon I paid 2 hours labor at $90 a pop, but I also had my radar detector hard wired. I have no do-it-your-self auto skills nor do I have do-it-your-self patience :-).
