If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a 2015 Hyundai Genesis with 51K miles (v6 Tech) on it and wanted to ask what are some of the things I should be looking out for? So far from other threads, I've picked up the following:
  • Sunroof Mechanism
  • Scratches on the black glossy door pillar
  • Infotainment system
  • Rust at the bottom of the car
  • clicking noise form the engine at low speed
Please let me know if there's anything major I've missed thank you!

I would pass on it. Sunroof repairs are expensive and any "clicking" noise at speed raises a major red flag. Find a better car would be my opinion on the matter.

I think he was listing just what to look for - not that the car he was looking at had these problems

My mistake. I assumed that he noticed those issues on the car he was thinking about buying based on the information on what to look for that he got from this forum.:)

Haha yes, I was just listing what I should be on the lookout for. I just wanted to see if there was anything I forgot.

Sunroof rattle, make sure you have the shade open and the sunroof closed; the shade can block a lot of noise

Thank you! I'll keep that in mind

Oh, and the repair for a noisy sunroof, based on mine being done under warranty, includes a NEW windshield, as well as the sunroof assembly, plus labor; not inexpensive.

To be honest... I use the sunroof only rarely. Think I've only opened it 5 times in the 3 yrs that I've had the car - it's just too damn hot in SE Texas!

Climate control! One of the best invention of the past 100 years. Mine was opened and closed the day I bought the car in Oct 2017. Not sure if other than the driver's window works either.

I use mine a few times a year - still have to keep the tracks greased up several times a year for the thing to close properly though - but only takes a few minutes

If you are planning to use satellite radio, make sure you dont have to reset the sat service every time you power up the radio. The fix is, replace the radio.

Had I known then what a near lemon my 2015 AWD V6 Tech Genesis is now, I'd never bought it.

I'd look for a newer year that hopefully has all or most of the kinks worked out.

Mine has been very reliable;Hyundai fixed the sunroof rattle under warranty, and I have good dealer service; no complaints

Only issue I had with my 2015 tech was the trunk wiring harness. Only 50k miles so far

I personally only had to repair the trunk taillight harness and replaced/covered up some faded interior/exterior trim on my 2015 5.0 ultimate.

However, Car Fax does mentioned that my car was brought into a Hyundai service center for noise concerns and radio repair under warranty which was rectified before I bought the car used in 2018; so it seems that the radio failure, sunroof rattle and taillight harness failure are the most common issues that a 2015 model will have eventually.

Thank you all! This has been very helpful! Aside from the sunroof, seems like a fairly reliable car.
