  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I got this issue going on where my 2015 genesis sedan 3.6 awd will completely shut down when put into park, and takes a few attempts for it to start again. It doesn't do it all the time but a tall tell sign that it's going to happen is the car appears to shift a little rough. No codes thrown etc ..

Guessing you have a scan tool and found no active or stored codes from what you said. Many things could cause an issue like this like a vacuum leak or a bad MAF. Start with the basics, air, fuel, and spark. I had a Chevy van that would do this because of a bad fuel pump, it wasn’t able to supply enough fuel at idle but no issues under load.

So when it's put into park it literally shuts everything off, dash lights etc.. go dead. Also the dash clock spins in circles and resets itself.

In that situation go get your battery checked first. Are the terminal connections snug and how old is it?

Battery hasn't been changed since the car was bought new in 2015, connections are fine. I'm going to have the battery tested today but you may be right that's fairly old for a battery

That's ancient for a battery - my OEM one went out last year & took the alternator with it. I'd go ahead & replace it, regardless.

My car got three years out of the first battery. My second one is coming up on 5 years this September. Had everything tested and the charging system is 100%.

My 2015 Genesis V8 Sedan is doing something similar.
1) The other day my AC came on by itself when I was at light. Also, the clock spun around fully during this...
2) Today, when I got in and pressed the start button, nothing happened. everything was "off"...then I opened and closed door and tried again...nothing. Tried open and close door again and was able to start, but not before the AC came on by itself....and clock did the spin again....and the rear view sun visor went into up position.

Drove it to store and shut off. Repeat of #2 above.
Then went home to test 2nd FOB......now both FOBS are working fully. Cannot duplicate yet...

Battery is only about 1 year old and looks good. Both key FOBS have newish batteries

Any ideas?

Thanks Joe! I know the cables are secure but will check the fuse....great idea.
I'll report back.

Did "septicwar" have any updates to his issue?
Nothing. Changed the battery and still does it randomly. Hyundai was no help they wanted to charge me a ridiculous price just to run a full diagnostic. It was something around 350 just for them to look it over and tell me what they think it may be, because it does not throw any codes or deep codes what so ever.

Thanks! Hopefully can avoid that, but still early.

Not that it matters, but want to also add that the windshield wipers also turned on last time this happened (in addition to AC, Rear Shade, Clock turning around). Maybe this will help someone else when searching these threads....

Any heads up needed when removing cables from Battery? I have not done that on this car yet (dealer replaced battery last time)

As with all cars, always disconnect the negative first, and reconnect it last.

Thank you!

Unbelievably the Positive cable appears to be loose upon closer inspection! Will let the group know how it goes!

Always check the simple stuff first. There may be something about the terminal clamp design on these cars that leads to them getting loose with age.

I never responded back, but yes was missing a nut that held the positive cable firmly in place. Replaced that and tighten up and have not had issue since.
Dealer forgot to put a nut back!! How hard can that be? They actually tried to charge me for "shop fee" for a battery replacement during that visit!! I asked why extra 12$....."For shop fee...you know, rags, lubricant, etc." REALLY! wow, $12 rags and lubricant for an overpriced Battery replacement....
I did notice it's not easy to get that positive terminal tightened, it's got a weird clamp, but cranked it down and put my own nut on, and been ok since.
Thanks for the responses!
