  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Second test drive/additional observations

Your gut impression is important. The 2010 is better than 2009, but it sure isn't great. If you had doubts you made the right decision - there are lots of fine riding cars out there you can find without odd suspensions. They may not be as nice a package, but...

UPDATE: THIRD DRIVE. Taking some good advice from the forum members I decided to take a different V8 with Tech on some city streets as well as the highway. My total test run took approximately 40 minutes. This time I checked all the tires and made sure they were all 33 lbs cold. They started at 36 cold before adjustments. This car just came in without carpets installed etc. I didn't notice any steering issues at all this time. The steering on the V8 is extremely tight. The V8 is exceptionally smooth and powerful with nice shifts from the transmission. Now for the part I am concerned about. After driving through many uneven and irregular road services, looking for speed bumps, and highway driving as well, I can only describe the ride as jittery or a car on caffeine. It reacted to almost every irregularity with direct transference to the driver's seat. Even the salesman had to admit he felt it, but of course stated this is a sport ride and is supposed to be firm. The jury is out for me. I know I can get this car at a GREAT price, but I'm not sure that after drving for lenghly periods of time, I will be happy. I love every aspect of this car except the ride. It would be great if they let me take the car overnight, but I know that won't be happening.

What are you currently driving and comparing the Genesis ride to?

Good Question.......I drive a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe with 40,000 miles which I have owned since new. I would call it a firm riding car, but completely different from the Genesis. It is super comfortable over long drives with no jarring whatsoever.

That happens to be the killer about the Genesis. Everything falls into place perfectly, and it is such a spectacular value. :(

This is all subjective...........I love my car and the ride! If you don't, don't buy it! C'est la vie!!

I've test driven the Genesis 3 times and it just does not seem that rough riding to me. Of course I am coming from a 2007 Lexus GS350, and that is one stiff riding MF. - I don't mind the stiff ride myself, as long as the car doesn't shake apart from rattles.

Considering that Hyundai does listen to its customers and is continually trying to improve its products, there is always consulation in the 2011 Genesis.

many of them seem to ride OK or maybe your roads or you have high tolerance - who knows

Not for nothing, but you have been on 3 test drives and you don't like the ride so why continue to evaluate this car? You will have a great bit of buyers remorse and spend every minute driving it thinking about the ride and how you don't like it. The Buick Lacrosse, Lexus ES350, Caddy CTS etc all have much more controlled / compliant rides and are close to the price range of the Genesis.

I have had this car for 1 year as of yesterday and it is a great car...very well put together. The ride could be a bit more compliant but for 99.5% of my driving it is smooth and quiet. Part of the reason I stopped visiting the forum is because so many discussions turn into a suspension debate. For me I just get into the car and drive it and I am happy. You will not be so my humble advice is to cross it off the list.

I haven't had the benefit of seat time in a 2010, but if they just fixed the "pitchiness" of the suspension, like some people suggested, it would still be a stiff riding car. That is no problem for me. I hate cars that float around like they are disconnected from the road and whose front ends dive toward the ground during hard braking. But that is me. Many people prefer a more isolated "refined" ride.

You need to decide what camp you are in and drive other cars to compare.

In the Genesis's price range you will find the Ford Taurus (Ford Sync is by far the best electronic control system on the market), the Buick Lacrosse (Beautiful styling and very soft cushy seats and ride), Toyota Avalon (smooth and isolated ride...much improved styling in 2011.)

The only 2 cars that have been in the running for me have been the Genesis and the M37. Although the M37 doesn't have all the goodies of the loaded Genesis V8 with Tech, it would have worked for me except for the seat comfort. I found the seat to be extremely firm, unlike the soft cushy feel of the Genesis. I understand that there is always a comprimise. I definitely will be going for an additional test drive. Helping me with the decision is that almost all roads in Florida are perfectly smooth and I rarely drive out of state. I appreciate all the feeback. This happens to be a friendly as well as informative forum.
