If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone else find this absolutely stupefying and frustrating?????

On the steering wheel radio controls, to change stations:

• You click up on the switch, the radio station goes 'down' the dial
• You click "down" on the switch, the radio station goes "up" the dial

NO CAR in my entire 30+ years of driving has EVER done this.
None of my other 3 Genesis Models did this -

Only THIS one.

Am I the only one?

Been talked about before many times. I just learned the direction to go to get to the station I want and never really over-thunk up or down on the actual button. Not sure if latests G70s are still backwards or not? Don‘t know if Koreans consider the button backwards or normal to them?

What was on the screen?

Goes one way when the radio is showing
Goes the opposite when the navigation is showing
Yes, stupid.

hey Ed -

Well, yes, THAT was the problem on my 2019 G70.

However, on my 2022 G70 it's a far different and confusing problem, and was specifically designed - makes no sense.

Example, let's say you have as your first 5 presets, stations: 96, 97, 98, 99, 100.

You are on "98", your 3rd station. You want to go to "96"

On the steering wheel, you NORMALLY would click "down" 2 clicks to "96".....

However, on THIS car, you click "down" 2 clicks and you go to "100".

If you, while on station "98" (preset 3) want to go "down" to station "96" (preset 1) - you click "up" on the steering wheel button.

- IT's COMPLETELY counter-intuitive. And ridiculous.

I have only had this car a month or so, and i really have to reach out to Genesis to see if there is some sort of software update that can reverse this.

Not only is it extremely, extremely stupid and annoying, it's also dangerous. I find myself, when wanting to go to a specific pre-set station, having to take my eyes off the road, and 'un-think' how the radio swithc works, to figure out which way to click it to go to stations.

It sounds like a petty problem, but it is the equivalent of turning a wrench to the "left" to tighten bolts, after your whole life it's been to the "right". This decision makes no sense.

I cannot be the only person who can't understand this? on a 2022 Genesis only - with the 'newer' radio?

Both my G80 and current G90 did the same. Annoying for sure, pretend up is a back button. The lower #s are on top.

Look at it another way. You are correct numerically. Down mean a lesser number.
Now look at the screen. Notice 96 is at the top, 100 is at the bottom. If you are on 96 and want to go to 100, pushing down makes sense.

forget numbers for a minute. That SXM station are listed from top to bottom as:
Rock
Jazz
Easy Listening
Oldies
If you are on the rock station and want to go to Oldies, pushing down makes sense.

Hey Ed -

I respectfully, truly respectfully, disagree. Every radio works a certain way, including the 3 prior Genesis models. Every radio!!Except this one -

Your way works if the radio is 'stacked' up and down, vertically - but it's not. ...It's horizontally -

It works the opposite of every car, including Genesis, I have ever been in. Makes no sense!!!

Ah...

Some day in the distant future a car mfr is going to put five push buttons on the dash that you can use to instantly access your favorite stations and the “inventor” will be named “person of the year” by Time Magazine.

Actually, I wonder if there are folks on this forum who don’t get it 🤔

Up left Right down. Looks OK to me. I'd set it up that way. To me it seems natural

Isn't that how they do traffic lights when they turn them sideways?

Not trying to start an argument, Ed, so I guess I'll drop it.

I really am amazed, that nobody else sees this as an issue, if they have a 2022. Really. And no matter what is said, it is NOT normal radio behavior.

As I said, my 2019 was "UP" button, went "up" the dial, or to the right.

Like when you physically turn the radio dial. To the RIGHT. You go UP.
When you click the 'lever' UP, you go down.

I guess my point is:

My '09 Genesis: Click the wheel button UP - you went "UP" in stations" or "to the right" on the horizontal radio.
My 2016 G80: Click the wheel button UP - you went "UP" in stations" or "to the right" on the horizontal radio.
My 2019 G70: Click the wheel button UP - you went "UP" in stations" or "to the right" on the horizontal radio.
My 2022 G70: Click the wheel button UP - it goes DOWN in stations" or "to the left" on the horizontal radio.

Ed. Tomorrow, in your G80. While radio is in full screen mode (not half-map) ...
Thumb the control switch on your steering wheel radio control up, and watch what it does, now, imagine it did the exact opposite. Imagine it goes in the opposite direction of yours. That's my issue with the '22 radio.

Anyway, that's enough of this topic. Thanks for letting me discuss it

I sense a panic attack coming on.

Why not just press the voice command button on your steering wheel and say “XM 69?”

No half map / half radio view on the 2018 G80 9.2" screen...

The G80 is not horizontal, it is vertical so pushing up it goes up. My beef is when the navigation screen is on it goes opposite.

In your horizontal mode, UP left seems normal to me. I'm left handed and don't know if that makes a difference. I'll have to ask people witch way they would push a switch to move something left to right. Tried to find an example but saw nothing. I did find this:

Why is left down and right up?
We in the western world naturally perceive horizontal progression as being from left to right (left is less and right is more). Thus, a button that represents more of something is more commonly placed to the right of a button that represents less of something

I did a quick unscientific survey of three people. One said up, two said down. Not very conclusive.

I'm on your side. It was one of the things I hated most when I got the car. I am used to it now but I still occasionally make mistake when I am not concentrating on remembering. I wish it was the reverse.

Not a panic attack. Just trying, (and apparently failing), to explain the odd decision of Genesis to change directions on the radio switch. And, Ernie, I am pretty sure for every single station I will not press the voice command button.

Again, I just don't get why the directional control changed, and I really am surprised at the whole "western worlds/ left right" discussion that has evolved -

Genesis changed the direction of the radio button. That's all. Wondered if anyone else felt the same.

I feel like John Hammond in Jurassic Park, when nobody but the 'blood sucking lawyer" agreed with him. :)

I get your point. if it was one way forever, why change? You can make a good argument on if it should be up or down, but there is no good argument to change for the sake of change, or whatever they did. That we can agree on.

Jerry, I think the problem is that this subject has been discussed numerous times in other threads here. Have you not read them? Your thread hasn’t added anything new.

My ‘22 Tucson works the same way and I adapted to it in about 10 minutes.

Thanks - my bad for not investigating further than I did for this topic.
