If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In order to meet demand, Genesis is building WITHOUT a tech chip that provides:

1)CHANGE: Highway Driving Assist replaces Highway Driving Assist II.

Not Included
Highway Lane Change Assist
Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
Lane-Change Oncoming,
Lane-Change Side,
Junction Crossing, and
Evasive Steering Assist

Purchasers will receive a $200 credit (whoop).

Speaking with a Genesis Concierge is useless as they are simply shuffle-experts back to a sales person.

HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION:

When the chip DOES become available, will you be able to buy it and upgrade to this intended features (at our cost)? No one from Genesis seems to be able to answer that question.

I really doubt it. The chip is the big problem but it has to work with the ECU and a bunch of sensors that may also be different.

IF that's the case, I wouldn't touch one of these with a 10 foot pole UNLESS MAYBE the msrp was reduce 10K. And maybe not even then. Wondering if the msrp slip shows this deletion?

It shows the deletion, and Genesis is expressing that buyers get a $200 credit... hardly a equal-trade-off. My dealer, that is claiming one is in transit, send me an invoice that mimics a MSRP sticker, but all price columns have a TBD and no value. Not sure if I like the vehicle enough WITHOUT those tech features. Too bad.

Without "Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist", I wouldn't take the vehicle. The other deletions I could live without.

I actually HATE Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. It seems way too sensitive. I almost got rear-ended because of it. The car in front of me was turning really slowly, I was at least a car length behind and would have been nowhere near a collision, and it automatically spiked my brakes to a complete stop, even letting off and hitting the gas pedal again didn't do anything right away. The truck behind me then had to spike their brakes.

most likely no.

as for the credit on the msrp for the downgrade of features, thats about what most other companies are crediting cars that arent coming with features due to chip shortages.

was looking at chevy 1500s, and they were going to give $50 off if i allowed them to delete heated seats lol.

Whilst I’ve yet to o receive any replies from any questions I’ve asked, let’s see if I’m lucky this time!!!
I live in the UK where Genesis is in its infancy…
Does anyone know if the remote or even auto park feature is also disabled without HDA 2?
As of yet no word as to whether it’s been deleted from UK or European spec cars, but that said no one knows a great deal about the products in any case over here!

Had the same issue happen many times. I think we can adjust the sensitivity of the FCA system so it will wait until we are closer to the vehicle in front before it locks the brakes on us, but I’m afraid if I make it less sensitive then the one time I actually do need it to perform for me it will be too slow and I’ll end up in a light front end collision. I have not yet changed the sensitivity from the standard setting.

I just purchased a GV80 with the $200 credit and was told that if and when the chip shortage ends Genesis would “probably” NOT put new chip in as it’s more evolved then just the chip. Knowing such, I believe that what that chip effects is ok with me as what I understand you still have forward collision avoidance. I haven’t received my GV80 yet, due next month, in port now.

Big question, when you sell the car in 3-5 years, is missing that set of options only going to reduce the cars value by $200? some cars have big value deltas based on options, others not so much.

If in three years the used car market is like now I don't think it will matter much. All models will lack the option so little to compare it too. I'd rather it be missing this chip than like BMW leaving out the HUD.

when in 2026 you find yourself shopping for a used car and are comparing a 2022 to a 2023 with similar miles and same trim, deducting for the difference in model years, is the difference in options going to matter?

I recently purchased a 3 year old car. I had a list of years I'd acccept, a mileage range, I had a list of must have options. Some I cared about a lot, others not much at all.

Looking at the values and asking prices, some desired options returned value to the prior owner, others seemed to have little or no re-sale value. There were some options that were not available in some years, and that ruled those models out entirely, thus reducing marketability (value).

Is this one of those options for future buyers? Will it reduce future value by $200? more? less? If you have to live without the feature but it reduces its future value by $0, you may feel you come out ahead. If it reduces is by $200, you come out even, but never got to use that feature. If you lose money (more than $200), will you care?

Most of us will have some sort of "minimum" but will that particular feature even be know to many buyers? Sure, if they left out air conditioning the value would plummet. Ambient lighting? Lighted sill plates? Not so much if even noticed.

We'll have to revisit this in 2026. I wonder how the market will be. I do know I'm holding off for at least the 2024 models given the crazy pricing today.

I thought the same way as to waiting because of pricing BUT if you put the pencil to it paying MSRP with lower interest rate vs discount and higher interest rate they come out pretty close so I decided to enjoy it now jmo

Could someone explain to me in lay man’s terms exactly WHAT you won’t be able to do with the deletion of hda2 vs hda1? Will it still self drive to some degree, be able to park itself, change lanes by using turn signal in “b” mode?

Don't forget the higher than ever trade value too.
At 4 1/2 years this is the longest I've kept a car in a while but I also only have 37k miles, a low for me. There is nothing I don't like about the car so not a lot of incentive to change.

I think overall this will be as bad or worse than the car market that resulted from the Great recession in 2009. That resulted in a lot fewer cars being manufactured, coupled with "cash for clunkers" that destroyed 690,000 drivable used cars. I purchased 2 cars that year, one new (2009 Altima Hybrid), and one used (1998 Chev Tahoe). it was a good time for a buyer for both new and used. I sold the Tahoe for almost twice what I paid for it after driving it for 6 years. I got the Altima for 20% under MSRP ($6000 off) because dealers were hungry and stuck with inventory, and another $4400 in tax credits. Drove it for over 180K miles and still got $4K for it in 2018.

In both cases the used value of the cars I sold was high because the cars I was selling were in short supply, few Altimas were built after that, and for several years, and many Tahoes were destroyed. This increased value for me was realized many years after the events that caused the market imbalance. I expect the used car market to be very unbalanced (high values) in 4-6 years because so few new cars are being made/sold right now, and many of the used cars now are being consumed at a high rate because drivers have nothing else to drive..

youre gonna take more of a hit on the depreciation from a full MSRP or MSRP + sales price than a few missing features.

Its a shitty time to be buying a new car right now. All the manufacturers are cutting features and barely giving any sort of credit. I have my fingers crossed my F150 gets built before all the cuts ford is making to features.

Ah, but the good thing with Ford is that they are saying when the chip shortage gets back to normal ( the NEW WORD of the year ), they will make the adjustments needed for the credit given on the window sticker.
