  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi to everyone,

I'm a new member here and just picked up my '13 R-Spec. I wondered what my gas mileage would be on the highway if I used a non-ethanol fuel vs regular premium. So on my first 150+ mile trip I put in 90 octane(the highest I could find) & I averaged 27mpg doing between 65 and 75mph on the cruise control. Has anyone else found better or worse results?

Oh and my 1st mod will be either a catch can or tint (depends on the appointment).

I don't think these cars are known for great gas mileage. Your mileage may vary slightly between the two fuel types but I doubt it would be significant.

Congrats on the car purchase and welcome to the forum.

I use non ethanol in everything I drive. I get better mpg with non ethanol. My Impala gets about 3 more mpg with it. My 15 Genny also likes it. Not sure how much better mpg I get with non ethanol in the Genny ,however I average 25/29 mpg with the Genesis.

Your numbers sound about right. Problem I have is only one nearby station and 50 cents more than regular. Will vary, of course but roughly: Ethanol is .084 per mile Ethanol free is .093 per mile. Cost per year is little but I pass a Shell station probably 50 times for every 1 time the other station.

Thanks for the welcome and responses guys!! It seems like my mileage is better by about 3mpgs in the city and 5+ mpgs on the highway with non-ethanol.

Well, that's impressive - more than I would have guessed.

I don't think there's anywhere in Dallas to buy it. I wouldn't pay 50 cents more a gallon for it, though.

Some small general aviation airports carry it as well as around some lakes. Boats and certain airplanes like ethanol free gas. You will pay a premium though. I was at lake cypress springs over the 4th which is about an hour East of Dallas and we paid $2.15 for ethanol free which wasn’t bad.

Unfortunately all the stations are too far for me to use regularly, and whether or not I happen to drive by one when I need gas (and remember to give it a try) is yet to be seen.

you can find local stations by using the PUREGAS app -- i bet they have a website too. Really easy to use. I use it in my lawn equipment and motorcycles, but not cars.

Yup, their website is posted two above your post. Wish there was a station near me.

I've actually found that website is not very accurate. I'm not sure how old the info is that they're using.

I wonder if it's user supported, like GadBuddy.

Not sure why GasBuddy doesn't pick up this info - they have the user base to support it.

When I had my BH 5.0 sedan (non R-Spec), I took a road trip from Austin to New Orleans and back. This is unscientific, but weather was about the same each way. Here are my results.

Will ethanol gasoline cause any issues with the engine being increased from 10% to 15%? As well is it OK to be used for the engine?

Oh now you started something. There will be 100 follow up posts an no clear answer. I've read that is is ok on any car since 2001 and I also saw AAA is saying it is bad to use.

Perhaps it will take a year for a definitive answer. Some cars run on E85 but are made to do so.

Can only go by the manual.

There's no chance in hell I'll use E-15 in any of our vehicles.

LGB!
