  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year
2015
Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I read today that most mobile carriers such as AT&T will be shutting down their 3G service. Apparently this may affect automobile GPS systems that use 3G. Does anyone know if 2015/2016 Genesis' use 3G?

Wow, you are late to the party. The answer is yes. Please search this forum. There are several threads on this already.

Won't effect your use of GPS & etc... The connected services / Blue Link will go away.

Short answer is yes, uses Verizon and service will end December 31 this year:(

Your BlueLink glass may be only half full, but your BlueLink invoice will disappear. Try to think about all the money you can save by not using it. These are still very nice vehicles.
Seriously folks, this service has been disappointing. It doesn't do for me what it was advertised to do. I like the intention, but not its results. The remote start will not work if your car isn't locked.
When my blue car was damaged, it did not call anyone, because there was no VZ tower close by.
When the car was eventually towed away by the local towing company, the location service had it 30 miles off target. Some people will miss the features, some people will install an aftermarket remote start. I intend to live without the additional expense, but I will join the class action lawsuit. 😠

The only things that I use with any regularity is the remote start - which strangely enough, works everywhere except my driveway! And sending destinations remotely to the car...

Over priced and unreliable.

Yeah, won’t really miss it! Though I wish to ask a question about when my auto renewal date rolls around,(Aug) once the 3G is discontinued will I be required to go in and cancel my auto renewal subscription or will it be canceled along with the 3G?
maybe just cancel it at renewal….

I think that it will renew as month-to-month, and then stop renewing when the service is no longer available.

I won't miss this overpriced BlueLink service and never paid for it once the short trial period expired. Great car, with or without BlueLink.

I don't have it but was thinking of adding it since I was going on a trip in case the car was stolen. I've read all of the 3G towers are turned off, but Bluelink is still working?

All of the 3G systems have not been turned off yet. The last one goes off at the end of this year, 3G BlueLink, such as your car has, will work till then. BlueLink for the newest Genesis will still work after that, (but not yours or mine).

Would the newest models get 4G? Maybe I shouldn't even worry about it. I have insurance and if the car gets stolen, that's why I pay the premium. It's just that this is the nicest car I've ever purchased, and I've been taking very good care of it. 2016 with 36K miles and shines like new. The insurance wouldn't give me enough to get a comparable car.

Newest yes. The 2016, no. My 2018 will be dead too.
