  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you use premium gas?

I just picked up my GV70 yesterday. I was quite suprised when I asked my dealer about needing to use premium gas. He told me it was not necessary at all and the engine does not need it. Anyone know if this is really the case? I thought going in that it was required for the engine.

Step 1 Read the manual. It tells you what you need.

Step 2 Do a search here for premium gas and you will find a couple of thread discussing this in detail.

My previous car, an Acura TL required premium. I tried regular for a while and gas mileage suffered. Considering that, you're probably not saving money going with regular.

I just can't understand some folks that will spend 8 bucks or more a day for a cup of coffee but, complain about $ 8-10 bucks a week for a tank of performance enhance premium fuel. Maybe it's just me.

Best Regards,

Nick

Filling a near empty tank to full using Premium would add close to $18-20 more per tank vs. regular.

Near me in FL mid grade is 60 cents more, premium 80 cents more. Give or take a dime, regular is $4

Hyundai/Genesis spends millions to develop and engine. Then we spend $60 to $80,000 to buy it and don't read the manual or believe it if we do.

Money aside you will also notice a difference in performance if you use regular vs. premium. Try it for yourself to see if the difference matters to you.

YES. If all you do is go to the grocery store and never exceed 40 mph, save your money and go with regular. OTOH, you like to have fun on the on ramp of the highway, premium may be right for you. Ask your doctor if your heart can stand the exhilaration.

I don’t use a tank a week. I use 1700 gallons a year on this work car. As others have said, do the math.

I use 93 oct premium 80% of the time and 89 mid grade %20. Never have used regular.

Have a twin turbo truck now, never put a drop of premium because dealer said its only recommended and not necessary. Performance waaaay more than enough for me, I don't take it to the track. I can haul a huge 5x10 dump trailer full of gravel like I am pulling nothing. Amazing how many ETFs I can buy with those funds saved. Just sayin.

OK now its someone’s turn to say the opposite. Please repeat this back-and-forth for no less than 100 times. Or at least as many times as has been posted on this exact same topic in multiple other threads.

@EdP said all there is to say in post #2. But we are only up to #13 now.

Search GasBuddy for your area pricing. Premium is only .40cents more than Regular in my area, but you have to search to find out who.

that is recommended to use 91 but not required. using any gas quality does not affect your warranty as my sales person confirmed. But performance is something else. if you wanna take the extreme power, you have to fill up your baby with 91.

I found it pretty useless. Did not even list the price of premium on the closest stations and did not list a few others that I pass regularly at the same price.

The station it lists that is 12 cent cheaper is some distance and would cost me about 1.5 gallons, or $6 to save $2 on gas.

There is an indicator on what type gas you're looking for, it list mine, why not yours? It lists every station in my area. I also have it on my iPhone so when I travel I can see prices, and easily change it to a map showing their location.

Like I said folks it's just me, I also drive a 2004 Subaru Outback H6 as my daily driver that also recommends premium but, I only use regular. I have noticed a drop in performance that I can live with. No major change in gas mileage.
Best Regards,
Nick

The most important thing is to use a Top Tier gas . It has additives to keep fuel system clean ( Injectors ) . I have not noticed any difference running vehicle with Premium or Regular .

If you find the performance better with Premium and prefer it, use Premium. I find it interesting that the Gas companies have commercials trying to convince you that Premium is better for your car . There is a reason it is more profitable .

I use premium fuel in my almost $70,000 SUV because it is “recommended“ and I can afford it.
