Gen1,OEM brake pads are expensive. They come in a nice box so the unboxing is more enjoyable![]()
Tran, what does your question have to do with the title of this thread?Gen1,
May I ask what does this have to do with my Question?

Getting my brake pads replaced tomorrow![]()
How many miles do you have on the car? Is it mostly city driving? We did mostly highway our our previous G80 and still had lots of pad left at 65,000 miles.Tran, what does your question have to do with the title of this thread?

Hi BillZ,How many miles do you have on the car? Is it mostly city driving? We did mostly highway our our previous G80 and still had lots of pad left at 65,000 miles.
Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm somewhat surprised at your experience. I live in Toronto where vehicles are pickled in salt from the roads. Although a previous Subaru needed annual brake jobs, my 2015 Genesis required no work whatsoever in the over 6 years I owned it. I had even asked about a brake cleaning and lubrication of the callipers and was told by the dealer after looking at them that nothing was required. I should perhaps add that a portion of each winter was spent in Florida, but a good portion in Toronto as well during the "salty months".Hi BillZ,
The GV80 has under 7K miles. I live in a higher elevation area where snow along with plenty of salt is applied, unfortunately to the detriment of vehicle longevity. I have had, especially, rear brake pads that freeze up on several vehicles. The problem is the result of rust build up on the caliper bracket pad seating area under the stainless clips, both under and on top. After cleaning the rust and no matter what high solids lubricant is applied, water washes the lube off and rust starts to reform, eventually locking the pads up along with associated rotor (pad friction area corrosion) necessitating rotor replacement. I have had this scenario happen frequently ~10 to15k miles. The vehicles did not sit idle, were driven regularly and it still happened.
I am thinking of a highly durable coating for the cast iron rear caliper brackets and calipers. If they are coated, maybe the offending rust would not build and lock the pads. While I am at it, I will need to remove the calipers. As such, I will need to bleed. I can not find anything on the bleed procedure; that is why I posed the question on the forum.
Note: I wish the car designers would specify galvanized for at least the caliper brackets.
My 6,100lb Prestige GV80 has 32,000 miles and it was definitely time for new front brake pads. I have no idea if that is normal or not but because I often tow a trailer and because I am a licensed professional racer it is likely that I am going through pads quicker than most will. Still too early to tell since I was the first buyer of a GV80 in the United States and because asof today I don't know of anyone in the forum with more miles than myself. How many miles do you have on the car? I just had my 60k service done (at a local shop as dealer is 90miles away over the Sierras. Shop owner inspected everything said brakes probably good til 90k service. Same with diff fluids and plugs. Thankful he did not try to upsell me. Total 60k was about $700. Dealer offered to drive the 90 miles with a loaner but wanted $3250 to do everything needed or not. I found my guy by looking through Yelp and other review sites for best ratings of shops specializing in "exotics" and Euro cars. Happy so far.My 6,100lb Prestige GV80 has 32,000 miles and it was definitely time for new front brake pads.
