  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What mpg are you getting?

I purchased a 3.3 recently and love the car. I want to preface what I'm about to say with the fact that I did not buy this car for fuel efficiency. Honestly, I've been surprised with what it has been able to achieve in both eco and comfort mode, with frequent visits to sport mode. My biggest issue with the fuel efficiency is the variance of what I calculate when I fill up at the pump and what the car reads. I have only used 93 since purchasing the vehicle. I have about a 40% highway/60% city breakdown in my driving. I've only filled up four times, but with my first two fill ups the math didn't seem right on the car, so I decided to track my next two fill ups to see what I got by calculating it at the pump. My last two tanks finished at 25.8 mpg and 26.2 mpg according to the G70. Quick math at the pump showed 20.2 mpg the first time and 20.9 the second. I'm really not concerned with the mpg on this car, but I am surprised by the variance I'm getting from the cars reading and my calculation. I think having a 5-6 mpg difference is pretty crazy. Has anyone else run the numbers for their 3.3? If so, did you find a similar result?

I’ve run mine with similar results. Been talked about here before. My disparity was not as great as yours. 2 to 3 MPG difference (lwr) between vehicle reading and my manual calculation over a tank full of gas. City driving mostly. You would almost need to use the same pump every fill up to take out variation from pump to pump and then average across 4 to 5 fill ups to see if your high variation repeats consistently or not? Not sure how our cars calculate MPG, but doubt there is a fuel flow meter in line that would provide most accurate results since those measure actual fuel flow vs a calculation of sorts based on fuel injector pulse count or some theoretical fuel mixture ratio from the ECM. Have no idea how it’s done so just speculating.

I have tracked the actual fuel economy (?) on my 3.3T on the Fuelly app and it is at 18.9 MPG after 2700 miles. I usually spend about 75% of my drives on city surface streets and perpetually use Eco mode and 93 octane gas. I have pretty much ignored the calculations presented on the IP, so I can't comment on the disparity but your average of 20 - 21 MPG aligns pretty well with my experience...
Enjoy,

~8 to 8.6 liters/100km - 90% highway
2.0T Elite ~80K km
Regular 87 octane

~8 to 8.6 liters/100km - 90% highway
About 28mpg in freedom units

My gas mileage has gone up considerably after realizing the dealer deflated my tires to 32psi at delivery. Inflated them back up to 38 and I've already noticed a considerable difference in my MPG gauge. I'll report actual numbers after my next fill-up (which, thanks to COVID, will probably be in a couple months...)

The conversion factor for metric to US fuel efficiency is 235. 235/8=29.4
To go from MPG to L/100km use 235/29.4=8
Your conversion factor is always 235. (actually a fraction more than 235, but what the hey)

I split the difference between 8 and 8.6 and rounded down :p

So glad you posted this. I never thought to check my tire pressure because the dealer told me he filled my tires and gas tank before I picked it up 2 weeks ago. When I checked this morning I was sitting at 30 psi in 3 tires and 29 in the other. Just went and filled up my tires and tank. Excited to see if this helps in any way.

@5k miles on the clock and the car was bought in April this year.
I lately have been doing quite a few long distance rides.
I mostly used Comfort Mode and 92oct premium
The mpg average shows on the dash board has been hopping between 29-30.
My old school compute is about 28mpg.
Not bad for a V6 TT engine.

Although I do not think the tire pressure monitor on the dash is a proper substitute for an actual gauge I do check it everytime i drive the car to see if a variance exists. I also check with a Digital gauge weekly on car & religiously on the motorcycle.
I also suggest you never leave the dealer without manually checking the oil level, look under the car where it was parked and check for drips and tire pressure. This is the best time to point out poor quality work to them. In the past I had a free oil change on a New Denali a few years ago. Tech forgot to tighten the oil filter, when I checked oil before driving off it was already 2 qts low. He insisted he had done everything he was supposed to, oil was dripping from engine, they still were not pleasant when I pointed it out.

Just went over 7k this week and a 2nd oil change.
So I figured I might give it some update.
This car has never ceased to amaze me and the last thing I expected from this vehicle at purchase was the gas mileage which keeps getting better and better. Old school compute is around 29mpg which to me is incredible for a sport sedan!
My driving habits are mostly Texas open highway, Comfort mode plus some spirited driving in between if you know what I mean.

I think you're on the minority to be impressed with the mileage. In two years and 14k miles, I've never gotten above 27mpg avg (calculated, about 29mpg displayed), even on the highway, in Comfort mode, with premium. In mixed driving, mostly about 45mph on country roads, I get about 22mpg in Comfort mode, and only 20mpg in Sport mode.

I truly believe I could even get a tad better gas mileage if I babied the car on the open highway whose speed limit is 75.
93 octane, 34F & 35R (tire pressure), and I placed a50lbs worth of weigh inside the trunk (pretty much out of sight) for better traction.

Wow, that's crazy. Yes, you'll get better mileage at say 65mph than you will at 75 or 80, that's for sure.
My highway mileage was at about 75mph. I run about 39psi all around, with 225 all season tires.

I had a 320 mile trip recently all highway and mostly 75-78mph with cruise on. Fairly flat headed out to West Texas. Averaged 27 to 27.5 mpg. 3.3 engine in comfort mode. Not complaining about mileage for fun factor is always high. My G37S with V6 when I had that would have gotten 30 mpg or slightly higher pretty easy. G70 fun factor beats my G37S though.

I'm still under 4K miles driven and the best MPG I've had was 22.4. I'm averaging about 16-18 MPG, but the majority of my driving is done on the city streets of LA so...

(3.3T) When I did a road trip from San Diego to San Francisco to Reno to San Diego I averaged about 31 MPG over 1200 miles. I usually average about 21-22 MPG per tank. It seems to me that this car LOVES flat roads.

I've got a not-yet-fully-broken-in 2022 G70 2.0T Prestige AWD. I decided to take a drive around one-quater of the Northern Virginia Interstate 495 "inner loop", from 395 to the George Washington Parkway. This is a combo of a 8-10 lane divided Interstate highway, largely flat, leading to a four lane divided parkway with lots of mild hills and dales. My speed matched the prevailing traffic, at about 60-65 on the Interstate and about 55 on the parkway. The weather was mild, maybe 65-70F, windows closed, air conditioning on, using smart cruise control and allowing the SCC make most of the speeding up/slowing down decisions. In "Eco" mode. Premium gas. Traffic moving smoothly, not stop-and-go, lane changing rarely, only to avoid one or two drivers who simply didn't want to match the speed everyone else agreed to. I got 28+ MPG. That's a bit better than I expected.
