  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 that is occasionally not starting while in Park. You press the Push-to-Start and it's like you push the button while your foot isn't on the brake. If I shift to Neutral, it will start no problem. Took it to the stealership to get checked and they replaced the fuel sending unit which (of course) did not fix the issue. I am assuming this is the Neutral Safety Switch, but not sure. There are no codes or lights on the dashboard. Anyone seen this before in their Genesis? Anyone have the repair manual so I can fix this one myself (the Neutral Safety Switch is like $50).

2. Install the manual control lever (A).
3. Tighten the nut (B) to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
16.7 ~ 25.5 N.m (1.7 ~ 2.6 kgf.m, 12.3 ~ 18.8 lb-ft)
4. Install the SST(09480-A3800) or 0.1969in.(5mm)bolt after setting manual control lever (A) in the "N".

5. Tighten the bolts (A) to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

6. Remove the SST(09480-A3800) or 0.1969in.( 5mm) bolt.
7. Install the shift cable and tighten the mounting nut (A).
8. Connect the inhibitor switch connector (B).
Tightening torque:
12.7 ~ 15.7 N.m (1.3 ~ 1.6 kgf.m, 9.4 ~ 11.6 lb-ft)
Adjust the shift cable before tightening the nut.

Super helpful, thank you! I am hoping this is the fix... it's cheap enough for me to try out. I probably need to dig more into the 'Adjust the shift cable before tightening the nut' step since I assume (yet another assumption) that this is important to get right.

How to Adjust Shift Cable
1. Insert the shift cable to the bracket and hold it with a new clip.
2. Align the manual lever hole to the hole on the transmission case and hold the position with a bar.
3. Eliminate shift cable free play of the shift cable.
4. Firmly hold the special bolt with a wrench and tighten the nut(A) to the specified torque.
Tightening torque :
13 ~ 16 N.m (1.3 ~ 1.6 kgf.m, 9.40 ~ 11.57 lb-ft)

5. Take off the bar holding the manual lever.
6. Shifting each position, check if the shift lever moves smoothly

My 2015 5.0 used to do the same thing on occasion too. I planned on replacing the neutral safety switch as well but I never got around to it. It wasn't until I read your post that I was reminded that I used to have that problem. The last time it happened was probably 2-3 years ago (it used to do it every week or two). Score one for procrastination.

I have the same issue. did you get it fixed.

Problem Description

  • Get in the car. With the key. Key has new battery. Close the door.
  • Press the break paddle.
  • Push the start button
  • NOTHING HAPPENS
  • No click
  • No sound or anything.
  • It’s like I never pressed the button.
Variations:

  • I also tried pushing the start button twice to get to ACC ON.
  • And then press the brake paddle
  • And hit the start. Same issue

Work around:

Put the car the neutral and back to P. it works.

My 2015 3.8 Genesis wont start. The indicator light stays on park but the shifter moves smoothly to the detents for R/N/D/back to park.
think I may have caused a failure in this circuit while replacing the valve body in the transmission due to the harsh shifting. I was at the step where i had bolted everything up and pushed fluid in. The car started normally but wouldn't move past R. I foolishly forced it and then I couldn't get back to Park. Naturally I realized i must have misaligned the valve body link to the transmission lever.
Took everything apart removed the valve body again. Realigned it and now i have movement at the shifter but it seems I have broken something that is on a sensor. Shifter feels too loose to me too.
Any thoughts on this one? I could have possibly damaged the neutral safety switch. The shift cable seems to move normally. I dont know what circuit feeds the indicator light but the fact that doesnt move off Park has to be a key to the diagnosis.
