Sluggish/Jerking Acceleration

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 (RWD) and I am experiencing herky/jerky acceleration at low speeds. No check engine lights and this has been going on for a while, but essentially under light acceleration, the car doesn't proceed smoothly. Early RPMs are jerky (it's not a strong sensation) until mid-way through the gear when it smooths out. My first thought is this might be an o2 sensor issue, as I have seen something similar in another car I owned.

Anyone else experience this type of issue?

Check the Mass Air Flow sensor and clean it with MAF cleaner. Replace the air filters. Try that before replacing oxygen sensors. You may also want to thrown some Chevron Techron along with Shell V-Power 93 Octane. Injectors might be dirty. Do you have a tester that shows fuel pressure? Maybe the fuel filter or pump maybe clogged.

I replaced the spark plugs today and first tests are promising. The car only has 52,000 miles on it but I guess it's the same too. The plugs looked rough.



I like the MAF cleaning idea too. I'll probably do that tomorrow.

The 2015 and newer Genesis 5.0 and 3.8 engines do not have a maf sensor. The Techron gas treatment is a good idea.

How difficult was the spark plug replacement?

I'm not an expert so it takes me a bit longer but it wasn't hard, just VERY tight places to fit my huge hands.

Heard similar stories. Just make sure the plugs are gapped properly.

Thanks for correcting me. I have the 2015 3.8L V6 2015 which does not have a maf sensor, but apparently the 2015 5.0 V8 does have one.

Holy Crap! that's like mine at just over 100,000 mi! Just replaced mine on my 5.0. Can't even feel it idle now and it'll chirp the tires when it shifts to 2nd.

Yeah, really feeling a performance boost on mine too. I was actually looking to sell mine for a g70 3.3, but decided to fix it up instead. That 5.0 is quick and it's luxurious. I really do love this car.

Good deal - I usually start looking at other rides by 100k or so. But the used market is nuts right now... and what would I replace my 5.0 with anyway - other than maybe a 2017 or 2018 5.0?

I think I'm going to get the KPLAY box for my 2015 Ultimate and just drive it until "the wheels fall off". Yeah, I hear you - I really love mine too!

I think that they are done... I believe that the new G90 has the 3.5TT only for this market - although I've read about them adding a 48 volt mild hybrid deal onto it, much like Mercedes does.

It would behoove Hyundai to make all Genesis (minus the GV60) all mild hybrid.

So the autozone link to that part is in error and is not applicable to the 2015 Genesis V8. Looks like most generic auto parts stores may be mis-quoting the MAF sensor as applicable to 2009-2015 Genesis V8s. The Hyundai parts stores are quoting the MAF sensor as applicable to 2009-2014 Genesis V8s, NOT to the 2015 V8.

if these no maf sensor, what sensor should I clean? (I'm currently troubleshooting a rough idling that is starting to develop)

Did you ever get this issue solved? I have the same issue with the same exact model with almost the same mileage
