  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 with MATTERHORN WHITE MATTE. Dealer put their dealer name sticker below trunk model emblem. With Matte paint, I assume I’d need to take extra caution removing the sticker. Anyone do this?

Make the dealer take it off. I have done this in the past.

I’m concerned they might use the same method used on regular paint car to remove the stubborn sticker and damage the matte paint.

Better them then you, but to tell you the truth, you can peel it off pretty easy if it was just put on. Luckily, my dealer did not put a dealer sticker on my new GV80. They gave me a tag surround, but I did not put it on. Not that I would not, but I already had a nice tag cover from my trade-in.

I tried the heat gun + credit card method and it would not budge. I’ll contact the dealer.

Dealer won’t remove it.

Wow, that is arrogance. How much are they paying you to advertise for them? Tell them $100 a month would be fair.
I wonder if you have legal recourse for them damaging your property. Check for anti-graffiti laws in you city/state.

Take your car to a local paint shop. They should be able to help you out, but of course it will be at a price.

I removed the dealer sticker/advertising off the trunk a few days after purchase of my 2018 G80. I used the following items.
1) Patience/time. Take your time to avoid damaging paint.
2) Hair dryer
3) Bug and tar remover for final cleaning mostly (e.g. Turtle Wax).
4) WD-40 (loosens adhesive)
5) Plastic razor blade (https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Razor-Scraper-Blades-Double/dp/B0046ZUNY8?th=1)
6) Isopropyl alcohol (final cleanup to remove B+T remover and WD-40).

Keep working area wet with B+T remover, WD-40, water or detailing solution when using the plastic razor blade.
Letting sticker soak with B+T remove/WD-40 for ~30 minutes will help loosen the sticker/emblem adhesive.
Again, Take your time to avoid damaging paint!
Do not use anything that will scratch the paint/clear coat (e.g. metal, abrasive pad/sand paper, scrubbie pad, etc.)

Use a quality wax on the area when complete.

I assume yours is a sticker and not an emblem. If an emblem use dental floss or monofilament fishing line instead of plastic razor blade.

Appreciate you sharing this info. I will order the plastic blades. Unfortunately with matte paint I don’t think I can use any of the chemicals you’ve used without damaging it and of course matte paint should not be polished as it’ll make the spot shiny 😤.

I can't speak to matte paint only clear coated car paint. Caveat emptor.
You can research what/if bug and tar remover can be used on matte paint.
A quick googling returns https://www.genesisofschaumburg.com/genesis-matte-paint/

By far, the best I have found is using a heat gun and plastic razer to remove the sticker. As for cleaning residual glue, I would still talk to a paint shop, but it looks like most people use goo gone.

Heat gun + plastic razor blades did the trick. Used 50/50 alcohol/distilled water mix removed sticker residue. Thx all for helpful tips👍

A body shop can take it off easily with a rubber type wheel. They are sold in auto body supply stores or you can do it yourself. Sometimes a heat gun will work and you can lift it or scrape it off. Residual glue can usually be removed with glue be gone even WD 40. Just don’t use lacquer thinner.

Hopefully I’m remembering this correctly. I think the company was Swiss wax or Sviss wax they make a wax for the satin paint. Just not cheap.

The dealership should remove it. I would go to the General Manager and request its removal they have no legal reason not to.
The dealership should not put any sticker of any kind on the car that cannot be easily removed without damage to the car. If you cannot easily remove the sticker, I would press the dealership to do so before I tried to remove it or have a body shop remove it.
The dealership probably does not want to deal with any damage that removing that sticker might cause should that be the case.
I too would be concerned with that Matte finish.

Good luck

This is the ONLY way to proceed. The GM, or owner, won’t want to see BAD PRESS here in the Genesis Owners Forum.
