  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is there any reason to leave the GPS update SD card in the slot after updating?

I assume if the slot was emptied after updating, if the SD slot would play whatever was on a replacement SD card. Would that include videos if the car was parked and the engine was running.

All of the GPS maps are on that card. If you don't leave it in, then you will have no GPS function.

Thanks and that's what I've done the 4 years that I've had my '18 G80 Sport.

FYI, that is no longer true for the newer years. I have a 21 GV80 that you just plug in the data when you upgrade and then remove the drive when your done. But the GV80 no longer uses a SD slot it is done with a usb pen drive.

Yes, but I would assume that it is true for all that do have an SD slot. Clearly, if there is no SD slot, then the maps aren't on the SD (that isn't there).

I guess what I was trying to say is that in the newer cars, you update the maps with a USB drive but instead of the data staying on the card for the car to access, it is uploaded to the hard drive and the USB drive can be removed. I just wanted to make sure that people with the usb drive know they can take it out when they are done updating.
I guess it is a different process now.
