In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Connected Services going away in December 2022

From a consumer’s viewpoint, a car without the ability to remote start and control temperature is not viable in areas like AZ where the temperature reaches 110 very often for months of the year. Or in NY for that matter where seasonal temps are in the teens or 90s. If I lived in San Diego I wouldn’t care so much…
Genesis of NA Consumer Support not only regurgitates that the termination of connected services is not their fault, but goes out of their way to repeat that they have no plans to assist any customer in maintaining Connected Services. Moreover, they threaten that if we or a Genesis dealer were to install or facilitate installation of any 3rd party part, they would void their factory warranty.
Miserable customer service at best.
On the older cars it is not their fault. The newer models should have had 4G modems as part of the design. The 4G/LTE was available in 2010 so given the typical lead time in the auto industry, cars from about the 2014 MY should have had the new technology.

I don't see how a third party starter could void the warranty unless it actually causes damage to something.

Lots of “shoulds” but I only know what Genesis Corporate told me. On no uncertain terms it would void my warranty. I’d probably win in court, but I’m not going that route…

Before connected services existed I had remote starters added to my Sonatas. I made it part of the deal for the dealer to take care of it. No warranty issues. There are laws about it.

I'm not sure how there is not a lawsuit at this point. You have cars still under warranty and the company is allowing a functioning part of the car to stop working on purpose with no path to correct the problem. Especially considering the keyfob does not even have remote start on certain models (like my 2018 G80) and the only way to remotely start is through the (dis) Connected Services using the app. Embarrassing.

What would a lawsuit do? It won't force Verizon to continue 3G. Not sure what you mean by "on purpose". Not sure who designed and built the particular head units (not Genesis) but certainly would have been better if the upgraded the modem portion a few years ago.

Nothing to do with Verizon. There is a way to fix it with an upgrade of the head unit, but I'm sure they've run the numbers and it's too costly. It was short sighted of Hyundai to equip them with 3g only moderns in the first place. For example, I had a 2018 Ram 1500 and a 2018 Volvo S90 both already equipped with 4g moderns. So that's what I meant. It's fine if you make the mistake as a company but provide a remedy to owners.

It is not a plug in $50 modem. It is integrated into the head unit that is $3000+. The remedy is not so simple.

Sure, in retrospect they should have upgraded to 4G at some point. Keep in mind, auto part designs are finalized 3 to 4 years ahead of model year introduction. The head units are not made my Hyundai but by a 3rd party supplier. They are the ones that have to come up with the solution, if there is one.

4G came into use in 2010. I don't know when the electronics industry became aware that they could integrate it but there was a couple of years the change could have been made. Note that some 2018 models are ok, the Ultimate is not.

What do you suggest as a remedy? I would think it it was a simple plug in the engineers would have come up with something.

Not sure why you're going to such great lengths to defend them. I don't care what the cost is to the company, I'm the customer. If I had known before I bought the car, I would have made another choice, but Hyundai is usually far ahead of most on the tech side so I didn't consider it. As a remedy I would suggest them fixing it, and yes I know it's the entire integrated system... Not my problem. Beyond that, I'm sure there are many other things they could do to offer owners in this situation an incentive to trade in with some preferred treatment. Let's be honest, the number of cars is not that high a volume here. It's definitely not a customer problem.

Sadly, it is your problem. You didn’t mention any specs about your car. That would be helpful in a discussion, don’t you think?

Defend? Just stating facts. Sometimes we don't like the facts.

Easy for us to sit at the keyboard and say they should fix it. We have no idea what they may have done or what they cannot do. If it was swapping a $50 modem I imagine it would have been done. I may just get an aftermarket remote starter since the connected service sucks anyway.

I understand they are offering a discount for a trade. Nice, but I'm not going to spend the extra to trade up for one feature. Tough decision $300 remote or $40K trade up.

Sorry, I thought this was an owners forum. Your facts are just a problem statement. The facts would be it was a terrible decision on Hyundai/Genesis part and it would be great if they would provide something other than an email saying sorry, not sorry. I don't expect any help from the company but it is disappointing to see. And it's not one service, it's all connected services so not a small thing to just stop working, if you use them.

What decision on the part of Hyundai/Genesis? ATT & Verizon made the decision to shut down3G. I don't know when they made the decision and told companies about it but they stopped activating new devices in 2018.

Can't find any new 8 track tapes either or programs on 5 1/4 floppies.

Okay, so is it still a secret which year G80 that you own?

Do you figure that Genesis is the only brand impacted by this problem?

SM68 Stated a while back that he had a 2018 G80. I have one too and have the same issue. Many other makes and models have the same issue, but a number of manufacturers have offered fixes or upgrades...it's been discussed above.

I certainly don't expect Verizon to keep 3G going, but I think Genesis could offer an upgrade path to deal with the issue. As discussed earlier, there are third party products which offer at least a partial solution, so replacing the head unit is not the only solution.

My car is still under warranty, and it will still be under warranty in December when an important function will cease to operate.

PS I'm really surprised there hasn't been a class action suit. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like a no brainer.

Can you give specifics? What exactly will work? Others have said this but provided no details as to how it is integrated into the system. What is the difference between the Genesis system and other brands that allow for the update?

The one that caught my eye initially is the Compustar CSX8900, All-in-one 2 way remote start + security bundle w/ LTE module. The local servicer who tinted my windows also installs remote starters and this one of theirs. I need to inquire on specific functionality, but this is what's listed on their website.
• 2-way remote start & security bundle
• Up to 1-mile range, 2-way LCD remote
• CM900-AS alarm start control module
• 105+dB alarm siren
• Dual-stage shock sensor included
• Now bundled with Drone X1-LTE
• Free 30-Day Premium Trial

The DroneMobile (premium) plan includes GPS Car finder, Speed Monitoring, Curfew Monitoring and Maintenance Reminders.
It's a subscription plan starting at $11.99/month. I was paying $20/month for Connected Services.

I was already looking for an alarm solution as there is like a ridiculous increase in car thefts in my state, almost exclusive Kia and Hyundais with push to start.

This was posted back on page two of this thread. Doesn't do everything covered by Connected Care, but it covers most of what I would want. The point is, if a third party can offer something like this as basically an add on box under the dash, I don't know why Genesis couldn't come up with an even better add on solution and they could reclaim the revenue stream they are losing.

I believe there might have been some other products suggested as well but I haven't had time to search though the thread. Either this one or one of the others had a phone app in addition to a fob for remote start.

My point is, we don't know why. What you show is a remote starter, a very nice one. Integrating it to work with all the other functions requires much different circuitry to either engage or bypass what is already there.

Yes, would be nice if they did but I'm not going to assume it can be done just because I want it. Class action lawsuit has been mentioned a couple of times too. What would be really get? Lawyers make a bunch of money from an ATT suite and I got a check for 25 cents. Someone did say you can get a $1000 discount if you buy a new car, a rather expensive solution.

I agree. Just offer a workaround.

Yesterday I finally had Dronemobile along with an alarm and remote starter installed on my G80 and canceled my Genesis Connected Services subscription.
So far so good.
The speed of the response from the dronemobile app is much faster than the Genesis app. And now I can also start remotely using my OEM key fob.

Can you give us some more specifics on the products. Model numbers, where to purchase it, who installed it?

Thanks
