If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. List of Stand-Alone Genesis Dealerships

As an outsider I'm just wondering if either of you can remember what the initial discussion was concerning. At this point is is just a bunch of back and forth with meaningless speculation, questions, inconsequential data, examples, etc and any real point not being made. I would suggest just ending it since it certainly isn't productive.
The discussion started years ago...as you can see from the top of this thread about list of free standing dealers Genesis dealerships
Well...4-5 years later nothing has really changed so there are no real updates.

My point is YEH likes to cherry pick, speculate and use data that is apples and oranges..ie the Porsche versus Genesis dealership statement he made

But I agree with you , frankly , because 5 years later and the stats are about the same...so it is what it is
I stand by what I posted in 2016 and the current statistics align with that

Warren

I'm new, as of Nov 2021, to the Genesis family. We purchased our's from a new Genesis dealership in Kansas City KS (open < 1 yr). I contacted them today for warranty/routing maintenance and they have ceased operations as of June 1 (2022). There was another dealership about 40 miles away (St. Joseph MO) that has also shuttered. Seems dealer locations are shrinking rather than expanding of late. Any one else experience this, and is any one specifically why Reed Genesis in Merriam KS (KCMO) pulled the plug (or was cut-off)?

Curious, were these dealerships stand alone or part of a Hyundai dealership?

dealership
The one in KC was going to be stand alone. Their Hyundai dealership is in a neighboring building next door to the shuttered Genesis dealership. Not sure about the one in St. Joe.

Thanks. Same happened here in Temecula Ca. They were going to build a stand alone across the street from the Hyundai dealership but canceled it.

Really not much of a debate/discussion...

Refuted each of the few points that Warren made and instead of coming up with any salient response, he just regurgitate the same, debunked points.

There's a reason why there are Genesis dealerships giving up their franchise after having declined HMG's buyout offer (to not opt for a Genesis franchise in the 1st place) - which in some cases, were as high as $4-5 million.

They simply realized that they would be bleeding $$ for too long if they went ahead and built out separate facilities as per the requirement to hold on to a Genesis store.

Corporate isn't exactly sad to see them go, as they know that fewer dealerships would mean a healthier dealer network (more supply per dealer).

They probably would like to see the # of franchisees dwindle down to 200 (from the current 300 or so), but hoping for that # to at least drop to around 250.

Only person cherry picking is you.

I'm going to put this in the simplest terms possible (but you still probably wouldn't be able to grasp it).

If Genesis were able to provide around 250k (or heck, even 200k) vehicles a year to the US, we'd see a lot more stand alone Genesis dealerships up and running.

At 200k/yr, that's 55 vehicle for each dealerships per month; probably not enough for most of them to break even, but the losses wouldn't be astronomical.

Genesis is far off from being even able to provide 55 vehicles to each dealer (right now, it's about 16 per dealer and that # is dropping due to all the supply issues).

That why there are Genesis dealerships giving up their franchise, as they see no way they can go forward (a build out of new facilities being required) without losing their shirt.

In contrast, ToyoCo was able to supply their dealerships (so they were profitable) within a couple of years.

At present, there appear to be just 3 "stand alone" Genesis dealer locations operational in the continental U.S.

The one in Lafayette LA and the temporary location is Santa Monica look to have their own Genesis service department but not the temporary location in Ft. Myers. (please correct if inaccurate).

See Google street view links below:

Lafayette

Ft Myers

If you know of any other stand alone Genesis locations currently operational, please post details.

New here, but I'm a happy repeat costumer at the standalone premiere dealership we purchased our 2 Genesis cars from...

O'gara Westlake Genesis (35 miles from Los Angeles)

They are positioned between Bentley and Lamborghini dealership showrooms!
They provide valet service or provide a loaner when you're servicing your vehicle through them.

It is what I expected from a luxury brand dealership. Customer service so far has been top notch since day 1 of walking in there shopping for our first Genesis (G70) last year--- unlike some other experiences I had from combined Hyundai/Genesis dealerships. And those wanted $5K-7K markup on their vehicles! Not at O'Gara. I ended up being a repeat customer! Santa Monica standalone dealership was great, too. And they were willing to sell with no markup, but ultimately I went with O'gara because of the exact car spec we were looking for. Genesis has work to do to have more standalone dealerships, but glad to know of one I've been happy with so far.

2022 Genesis G70 3.35T Sports Prestige (his)
2022 Genesis GV70 2.5T Sports Prestige (hers)
Is O'gara Westlake Genesis still a stand-alone store?

Also keep in mind that sales is a small part of the dealership revenue stream. Service/warranty work is what makes or breaks a dealership. That is where Genesis needs to pick up the game and make sure that environment/service provided is on par with other luxury brand experiences.
They seem to be going in the other direction. Two out of the three Hyundai dealers in my area no longer do Genesis service.

Still stands alone from Hyundai. Shares the same building with Bentley, Maserat, Rolls
Does not share service writers, bays and tech with anyone.

Can you clarify whether the Genesis showroom is a separate partitioned unit with a separate door from the outside?
Is the service dept. in a separate building or one shared with other brands.

I ask because today Genesis Consumer Affairs provided a list of stand-alone locations and Westlake was not included. Further, they advised that:
" None of our dealerships, stand alone or within a Hyundai Dealership, will service just Genesis".

Here's how Westlake is listed on the Genesis website:
GENESIS OF WESTLAKE
Located at Westlake Hyundai
3610 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevar
Thousand Oaks , CA 91362

I've been wrestling on whether to get a G70 or not, but without a single Genesis dealer in Kansas City, I might wait to see if they add one back to the area. Reed was literally 5 minutes from my house, not that I've been a Reed fan anyway. I know quite a few people that have had bad experiences with them. They bought Overland Park Jeep, which used to be a good dealership, shuttered it soon after and built the new Jeep store next to where the Genesis dealer was supposed to go. They should have rolled the old Jeep building into a Genesis dealership... if you look up http://www.genesisofstjoseph.com if comes back to Reed in Merriam with their closed placard on the front page.. The only option I would have is to drive 40+ over to Lawrence, KS to do any warranty work and comp oil changes etc. Kind takes the luster off with the gas I'll have to blow to get the freebies offered with a new car.

Here’s the sign at Pearson Genesis of Richmond. It’s not a new build, but it’s stand-alone as well as filled with plenty of used cars from other brands. Word is that a new showroom will be built adjacent to Pearson’s Hyundai showroom down the street about two miles.

I can try. It’s about 10 miles from me.

The showroom is a separate room. The entire property is set of showrooms that flow from one room to another with no doors in between but lots of glass. There is a door to the outside in the Genesis showroom but the way it’s laid out, it’s easier to walk in from service through the other showrooms to get to the Genesis one.

The service department is a series of attached outside offices Across a driveway from the showroom. The Genesis service manager has her own office.

Does that help?

For those living in Western Washington, just got word a site has been designated in Lynnwood for our first stand alone Genesis dealer! The grand opening is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2023.

This is great news! :-)

It sounds like Genesis has dedicated space there and while not a stand-alone, it's a step up from being in the Hyundai showroom. Service also sounds like an improvement over the Hyundai shop, you're fortunate to have that nearby. Thank you for the info.

Good to hear. Glacial rate progress is still progress. 😄😄

I don't know what qualifies as "stand-alone" for GMA because on the list of "stand-alone" locations they provided, only 3 of 30 listed have a physically free-standing Genesis dedicated building at this time, (as pictured above).
I dont think there is anyone who knows what stand alone means. So it’s kind of pointless listing what is or isn’t. It seems there are degrees of stand alone. Physically free standing. Does that mean that if the Hyundai building is 5 feet away is ok? Does it have to be at least a mile away? If it’s a mile away but they drive the car over to use the Hyundai service bays is that ok or not? If it is physically separate from Hyundai but share facilities with Bentley is that freestanding?
