  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

My status page says that I have permission to start new threads, but I cannot figure out how to do so. I have tried to contact the list owners but can't get a response. Would appreciate any help you could give me.

Angila,

He must have found out how because first off, he started this thread, and second, he has 45 posts as of today (although I admit that 44 of those posts could be replies).

It's not entirely clear to me whether he's talking about this site, since he had to post this topic, as you pointed out.

Angila was a spammer.. Whenever you see one of these old topics brought back to life with a response that's not exactly on the ball, it's probably a spammer. :)

Otherwise, it does appear that Ron is posting just fine...

If I'm not mistaken, I got into this thread through something called the Owner's Lounge or some other place than the simple board posts of the day. Is there a place you go to start a new thread for Today's Posts?

Thanks,

Ron

Ron -

This place is called a message board or forum. You created a new topic or thread within a section called "owners lounge". Threads are on a first come first serve basis which means there is no, "All threads started today are in this section".

For instance - You started a new topic called "New Thread Help" within the section called "Owners Lounge". Each reply to this topic is a "post" which in result creates a "thread". (sometimes the word "thread" is referred to as "topic" even if someone doesnt reply to your discussion)

You've been doing quite well asking and replying and creating new threads so I'm confused to exactly what your question is. Keep asking though, I'm sure someone will help you out.

Dear Ash,

I have some 40+ posts to my credit but each is a "reply" to an existing topic. I just wondered how to start a topic from scratch. I don't know where on this site you go to start one of your own. Hope that makes sense.

Ron

Each is not a reply according to stats he has started another thread called Newbie

Something smells

I started that one? Yes, I remember that topic but damned if I can remember how I did it. So, I guess I go to the Owner Lounge and start it there. Then if someone responds it shows up in Today's Posts?

And thanks for the "stink" suggestion... like I'm having fun with this and trying to fool you, MrB0462:confused:

Hi Ron - If your reading this post you'll find at the very top left of the page something that says "Post Reply". You do not want to hit that button to start a new thread.

What you will need to do is go back to the "list of topics" or "threads" and find another button that says "New Thread" which is found in the same location as the "Post Reply" button. The "New Thread" button is only found where the list of topics are. "Post Reply" is only found within a topic your are reading.

I hope that clears things up.

If you click here you'll be at the "Topics List" for Electrical, Lighting, Bluetooth, Stereo, iPod integration, DVD Navigation, Etcetera
You will see "New Topic" icon on the top left of the page.

How simple and straightforward. The mystery is solved and now very clear. I refuse to feel too stupid, but I give you many, many thanks for your patience in helping me find the right spot, Ashdump.

Ron:)

Hey, I feel so competent. I just started a thread and it showed up on the forum. Thanks again for your patience and thanks for your help.
