  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 Genesis sedan 5.0. I believe it can remote start with the iphone app. I don't really want another subscription, but would like to be able to remote start my car. Are there any work arounds?

Install (or have installed) an aftermarket remote start.

Aftermarket starter. Many types available from push button to phone subscription.

If you do a search you may find where particular ones were discussed. Both have advantages.

The ones using a phone app give unlimited range as long as you are in a place with decent reception. As you may notice, the Genesis app can also have a long time delay. If I start the car in the checkout at the supermarket my car may not be started by the time I get to it.

The push button fob types have a limited range and can encounter interference at times, but there is no lag to start.

I was hoping there was an almost free workaround.

Looks like previous owners never activated the genesis app, or they give it to every new owner. I have 3 years free, so I will be going with that.

It’s a shame Hyundai didn’t just put one pore button on the key fab to start the car. The car is capable of starting, just seems like a money grab for some subscription money.

Guess again.
Second owners get three months, not three years. As it turns out though, that won't make much difference because the whole service is going away at the end of December for all of us that have only 3G modems. (To be clear here, your 2015 has only 3G.)

Interesting, the app quoted 3 free years. I am actually the 3rd owner, I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but neither of the other owners registered the car with me genesis.

Thanks for the info, it'll save me some confusion in a few months.
