  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just bought a 2012 genesis r spec about a week ago. My back door passenger side won't open from the outside. It will open from the inside. Was working early same day now it doesn't work. I was trying to unlock the doors by pushing the button on the passenger door but it wouldn't unlock the doors so I used the key fob to unlock it. Went to open the back door and it wouldn't open. All the other doors open from inside and out.

On the edge of the door when you open it is a child safety lock and unlock, check to see if it locked.

I did. It's not locked.

Does that door handle feel different from the rest of them? Just wondering if something broke or came loose internally.

I'm guessing you checked this already, but just so we know for sure, did you try manually locking/unlocking the door from the inside, and see if that changes anything?

Looks like a fun little job. Back in 2011 the rear pass door lock solenoid failed on my 2009 4.6 that was replaced under warranty (then $500 or so).

Hopefully you can get to the entire door latch (rear part of the door) without having to remove the window.

I had the same issue Front driver door. I replaced the solenoid (with the cables and latching mechanism), didn't fix it. Then replaced the door handle base (BASE ASSY-FR DR O/S HANDLE LH / 826553M020) as it had a cracked tray for the electrical feed to the handle and that didn't fix the problem. But I noticed that the door handle worked flawlessly when the interior panel was not connected (the 'nice' panel with the all the switches, interior door handle and lock). After connecting all the components of the door assembly with the pieces exposed so I could watch the solenoid lock and unlock I noticed that the interior door lock (the toggle with the orange on it visible when unlocked) would limit the locking cable from remaining in the unlock position. It basically 'bounced' - still showing unlocked/orange but was locked. On the back of the interior panel you have the back of the 'dished' door latch release and lock, there is a small peg to limit the unlocked toggle's resting position, it is covered with a knurled rubber bumper (I guess to soften the sound). It after 10+ years must have hardened enough that it bounced the toggle just enough to re-lock the door. I just removed it, now all is fine. That assembly is replaceable of course, but I can live an a unmeasurable bit of noise.
