  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New level of Dealer chutzpah

This is pretty ridiculous. Blind spot monitoring is a great safety enhancing feature, but it is not required and a lot of cars don't have it. If you go to a safety inspection, you will not fail if your blind spot monitoring it not working. You will fail if your brakes are not 100% working. You may fail if your power steering is out.
It is legal to drive a car with no blind spot monitoring. It is not legal to drive a car with the main brakes not fully working. (Driving with the ABS not working is still legal, AFAIK.)

Seriously. This Karen is comparing blind spot monitoring to ABS. Seems significant to point out the name of the feature includes the term "monitoring"

I understand frustration with the service department. It's totally valid and seems to run rampant with the Genesis dealers though by no means is it limited to Genesis. Carrying on like the dealership should make repairing blind spot monitoring as their greatest priority is just silly.

Fully agree. I have 3 vehicles. The G80 is the only one with blind spot monitoring. Does this mean that the other two should have a safety recall to have blind spot monitoring installed? I can also state the same about the backup camera. I guess the two without it should have recalls as well.

Yup. And, as far as I know, there are still cars sold today that don't have blind spot monitoring. How is it possible that the auto industry is still allowed to sell them? I mean it is a safety issue correct?

So, this weekend, while driving my 2017 G80 *under full warranty), the blind spot monitors decided to go on strike. Both sides, while I was on the highway.

Yuck.

So I call the dealer and tell them that this needs to be fixed, can I have an appointment for Saturday? Ummm, "no" says the young lady, "we don't service Genesis on the weekends any longer." Wait, this will get better!

I point out to her that this is a safety issue. I would like a valet pick up please. Sure, she says, "We have an opening for Valet Service on September 20th".

I repeat that this is a safety issue. Please get me the manager on the phone. (this at 9:00 AM). She says "no problem, he will call you back.

At 3 PM, I call back for the manager. I get another person, a young man this time, who repeats all the same nonsense as above - No Saturdays, no valet for 6 -7 weeks, not a safety issue, etc. He promises that the Manager will call me back. Sigh.

After an hour, I call the Dealer's General Manager. (yes, I have his name and number). He agrees that it is in fact a safety issue, and he guarantees me that the manager will call me back very soon. He also adds that I should have valet service as soon as is possible.

About 5-ish, the Manager calls me back and apologies (poorly). His excuse for not calling me back all day was that he was busy. He openly states that the only reason he called me back was because his boss, the GM, told him to. He tells me that the blind spot monitoring is not a safety issue. I politely informed him that he was wrong. (He tried this a few more times and got the same response from me. - this isn't the AC or the radio, it is blind spots.

Finally, he commits to sending me a loaner on Thursday (this all happened on Tuesday) and fixing the car. We will see if that actually happens.

Rhetorical question: What planet do these people live on? (Rhetorical questions do not require an answer).
Forgive me and I don’t think you are foolish in any way however, it’s a first world problem. I’ve been driving for 58 years and only recently has blind spot been available. Haven’t had it in my corvettes in forever. The C8 corvette now has it and only in upper end models. Yes, I can get a mid engine corvette with mirrors only. Use your mirrors as directed on You Tube and you’ll be fine. Trucks have no rear vision other than side mirrors unless they have cameras. I hate the Genesis dealer attitude as much if not more than you but you do not have a safety issue you have a correct mirror use issue. I’m not being critical in any way just disagree and I advise you once again watch You Tube.
Best of luck with your dealer. BTW Genesis is promising better service when they separate from Hyundai. Hope this helps
