  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am considering getting a 2010 Genesis V-8 with Tech package or trying to decide whether to wait for the 2011s to come out to see what changes are announced.

Have there been any reported changes that will be coming out in the 2011 model? Any suspected changes?

Thanks.

Well rumors are:

1. slightly revised styling
2. 8 Speed transmission
3. direct injection engine

None of these are confirmed though

Hello, welcome to the forum!
You'd be able to find topics related to this, but to give you a brief answer;
- Minor face-lift. (Rear bumper integrated exhaust tips + ?)
- Possibility of an 8-speed transmission

There's no firm answer regarding the changes of MY'11 as of yet.
If you can wait a few more months, it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait and see what the changes are.
Good luck!

Dan

Also a new electronics system similar to the Microsoft announced with Kia in January.

Note, although there has been talk of an 8-speed transmission and rumors of all Hyundai's moving to direct injection with engine specs published on Korean websites, exact US plans are vague.

For example, the Equus, a 2011 model, is listed with a 6-speed transmission and the same engine as the Genesis V-8. I doubt they will change that midstream before introduction.

There is also a huge leasing advantage by introducing a new model as early in the calendar year as possible. Lease residuals follow the model year. Getting the car out in January or February can result in an extra 8 months before the drop as a model year old. it could be 5 or more residual points. On a Genesis that is over $2k or $50/mo on a 36 mo/lease.

So, I think it is likely there either won't be a 2011 (BMW and VW have done model year skipping) or a very short model year (Infiniti did that with the new M) followed by a January/February introduction of the 2012 Genesis and the 2012 Equus and maybe Azera a month or so later.

That would also account for the absurdly low 1500 units said to be planned for the first year of the Equus. The first model year may be only 4 months long and they will want to ensure there isn't old inventory when the 8-speed/DI/new electronics 2012 arrives. At $55k people get very picky.

Not sure I follow you here. Regarding the Genesis. Are you saying that the Genesis won't have a 2011 this September?

They may, but the new one may be a 2012 model introduced in January as the new Sonata was. BTW, that is also how Infiniti did it with the M37/M56. The 2010 was unchanged and replaced after 6 months.

The 2011 Sonata and 2011 Infinit M were completely new designs, not minor changes of an existing design (as the 2011 Genesis will likely be). If the Sonata and M were ready to go in Sept/Oct of 2009, I am sure they would have been released at that time.

So I would doubt that the the 2011 Genesis will be introduced in Jan 2011 (but I don't really have any inside info on that). The only reason for such a delay would be if something on the 2011 Genesis is not ready yet by Sept/Oct 2010, but the only thing that I have heard that could cause such a delay would be a new Hyundai built transmission (and that is just a rumor anyway).

When an automaker introduces a car mid-year (other than Sept/Oct) it is because that is when it is ready (after a long design, testing, and production cut-over). In the "old days", many automakers always introduced the brand new designs in Sept/Oct, even if they were not quite tested properly, or they just waited until the next Sept/Oct.

1500 units per year for the Equus is not absurdly low. The estimate is based on a monthly estimate, not a yearly estimate of a partial year. Although initial demand for the Equus may be strong (partly from Hyundai employees and 700+ dealer owners and dealer GM's or courtesy cars), I don't expect it to be a big seller, and neither does HMA. If they sell too many, they are going to have CAFE problems in a couple of years and may start increasing the price to lower demand.

Fwiw, last yearyou had to wait until Oct 09 to see what the 2010 Genesis was officially going to be - differences and pricing, so I'd expect the same for '11. '10s didn't actually arrive at dealers until Nov-Dec.

I plan on ordering a 2011 Genesis as soon as I can at my dealer. What do you think my odds are at getting the car before December? I would like to drive it to Florida at the end of December for the winter.

If you are on the West Coast, you're odds are better. Maybe see about factory ordering a car, but then you'll be paying full MSRP.

So are you going to keep the Genny for yourself and dump the Lexus on your wife?

No, it will be her car, but I did offer that deal!:D But she always likes me to drive when we're together.:) And we are only taking one car to Florida, and hopefully we have the Genesis by then.

I am also waiting for the 2011, but unlike your situation, I can wait 4-6 months after introduction to take adavantage of the more aggressive discounting. Considering that the V8 and Tech is the top of the price spectrum, I need that time to enjoy the approximately $6,000 off MSRP we are seeing now. In addition, I'm sure there could be another $1,000+ increase in MSRP.

They have new seats from a US vendor, new nav/tech from Microsoft, direct injection and an 8-speed tranny. However, if all that makes it out the door for a 2011 or if it is 2012 or even a 2013 before it all arrives is unknown.

It's almost worth it to trade in for Microsoft Sync alone. Man that iPod interface on the tech package is brutal. It's functional, but only just...

I don't think the Genesis will be getting sync, I would be willing to bet it stays on the DIS platform (which is good enough imo)

I would guess some lower end models would get sync, like the Azera or Sonata

Kia already has their version of SYNC (called UVO), it's all but a sure thing Hyundai will get it too. Presumably with the Genesis being the first in line.
