  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am aware of the HDA 2 features such as driving lane switch, keeping eye on cas on either lane, etc.

Does the update from 1 to 2 make a big difference in experience?

GV70 currently has HDA 1 only. Not sure waiting 1 year is worth it for upgrade to HDA 2

There have been several threads on here comparing the two. Here is my assessment of the difference between the two. I agree - it's a tough call. I'd like the HDA2 features but it may be a long wait before those are integrated back into the vehicles.

Some of the features would be nice to have, but driving my GV80 with HDA, it also works good in making your highway driving less tiring. I do not know if I would wait a year for the additional abilities that come with HDA II.

Related to this, does anyone have a line on the complete list of hardware differences between a vehicle with HDA2 and one with HDA? My understanding is that there is a difference in controller (or maybe an extra controller), some additional sensors, and associated harnesses. Thanks.

There is at least 2 radar modules and a controller difference along with associated harness, but I have not seen a complete list of physical differences. Have heard there is no path to get HDA 2 onto any vehicle that was downgraded to HDA 1.

Thanks @DaleNet I have confirmation from Genesis of America that my 2023 that came without cannot be upgraded- ever. They're not being very forthcoming in the technical details as yet. Working on that.

The short answer to your question is that I don't think its worth waiting an extra year, the long answer is maybe. I had a Kona EV that had HDA1 circa 3 years ago and then I moved to HDA2 in my Ionic 5 6 months ago and now going back to HDA1 in my new Genesis GV60.

First off the auto lane changing which is the most obvious benefit is a bit lame in that it will only work on NAV identified controlled roads/interstates, you have to turn on you turn signal and then nudge the steering wheel in the direction of the change with the perfect amount of input. If you put in slightly too much steering effort it cancels the whole automated change . If all goes well the system waits for a clear opportunity in traffic to make the change, its biased on the conservative side so it can be annoyingly slow in heavy traffic. Lastly the actual lane change is relatively abrupt, akin to a new 16 year old new driver's efforts at lane changing. It generally annoys my wife, lol. By this point your thinking it would just be easier to continue with the steering process manually. Most times it feels like a party trick for your passengers.

The major con of HDA1 is the lack of side swipe avoidance, but again this only works on NAV identified controlled road/interstates. The other issue with HDA1 is that you don't get true stop and go . While HDA1 will slow down to a stop following a car it requires driver's input by pressing on accelerator or input button on the steering wheel to resume adaptive cruise. With HDA2 (on interstate only) it will come to a stop and again resume automatically when it senses the vehicle ahead and starts moving without any input from you. This is pretty cool but it can lull you into thinking the car has it all under control but it is relatively poor at notifying you if it decides its not doing this for you anymore. I had a situation where I was in thick stop and go and the system worked great until it somehow didn't. Its quite possible I may have inadvertently tapped on the brake and this quietly disengaged it . Fortunately I was still paying attention when I realized my car was coming awfully close to the vehicle in front of me but it could have easily gone all wrong

As to why I said maybe to the OP's question is that I have observed notable refinements in the HDA software with each successive version released regardless if they call it HDA 1 or 2. In many ways the core function of HDA1 in my new Genesis feels slicker than in my 6 month older HDA2 equipped Ionic 5 and certainly miles ahead of HDA1 in my 3 year old Kona EV. Its unfortunate they just can't OTA update these improvements like Tesla vs having to buy an entirely new vehicle every time the software evolves.

That would interesting since the agreement was to reduce the price of the car by $200 for a missing chip. There was no mention of all the other items that were listed. Question, were those of us who bought cars without HDA2 misinformed in thinking it was just a chip issue? Time will tell.
