Has anyone else experienced poor sound quality from the rear speakers? The speakers in the rear of the vehicle are extremely quiet. When isolating the sound to the back speakers, the volume needs to be over 50 for it to be in a normal listening range. Furthermore, the audio coming from the rear speakers is terrible! They sound like cheap Walmart speakers.
The front audio sounds amazing, but for those riding in the back, it's not the same experience.
I've taken it to the dealer and was told that they reset the system, and it's now fixed. It's the same poor quality it was, so it's not fixed. This leaves me to wonder if others have noticed this same issue.

Not the best sound system in this vehicle…

Really don’t understand the complaints about this sound system. I think it’s one of the best audio systems out there.

I hear music out of all speakers and I even got compliments from passengers saying it sounds great. My mirrors shake, my seats throb with bass, it’s clear. Really hear the surround sound..

Even when I had my 2013 Genesis Sedan R-Spec 5.0 it had the Lexicon 17 speaker and that was amazing also. Then I went to Lexus with the Mark Levingson and thought, wow all the hype for this sound system and it’s trash... nothing compared to the Lexicon…

I always have mine plugged in using Apple Music. HI-FI audio is where this system comes to life. Not once have i used Bluetooth audio, radio, or XM. Quality will not be the same.

Please share your audio settings, not only for the vehicle, but on your iPhone as well, thank you.

I am getting a subwoofer installed to make up for the lack of bass. I had installed it in my old Audi with the Bang and Olufsen system, and just moving the sub over. If you really want good bass, you will need to install aftermarket.

Surround sound only works if you set the setting to AUDIENCE from REFERENCE or ON STAGE

I finally had some time to test out the audio over the last few days and a couple of tracks were pounding hard enough to make me feel it in my chest...I really don't get what the issue is and why people are adding subwoofers! I don't see an issue! Have you turned up the volume on your Android Auto/Car Play settings in the vehicle?

I forgot to add, if you have music downloaded on your iPhone, and lossless was not selected, and you want lossless audio, you’ll have to delete the Apple Music app and re-download it to get those tracks on your iPhone in Apple Lossless.

Right? I’m thinking people are overdriving their drivers with distortion by bumping up bass, midrange and treble above +1 and the amp is clipping.

The clue to this is again thanks to Savage Geese (See his notes below) :)

Thanks for stepping in and sharing info that not just myself will find useful but I’m sure others may be interested in trying.
I’ll apply them and get back to this thread after a few days of trying them out.

I’ll test your settings as well. Your GV70 settings vs lionorion’s are very different… I’m gonna check what I currently have mine set up at and post them here for comparison sake.

That’s where I have my settings. So is it just my car having sounds issues?
Are you using wireless BT or are you plugged in via USB cable?

I just went out and listened to the Lexicon system in the second row using some of my reference recordings and I have to admit the sound from the second row is not as impressive as the sound from the first row. The audio does seem several dB's softer and completely lacks a sound stage in the second row.

When first inspecting the system I questioned why Genesis/Lexicon put the midrange speakers a foot or two behind the second row position but kept the tweeter and woofer in the door. I know that is not the main cause for the sound difference, but it can't help.

I would not say the second row speakers have distortion, but they do seem muted compared to the front row. I just never noticed since I am always driving.

I've had the Inifinity Premium System in my Jeep Liberty Renegade - sounded horrible in the back
I've had the Sony Premium performance System in my Ford Edge Limited - sounded horrible in the back
I've had the Harmon Kardon system in my Jeep GC Overland - sounded horrible in the back
I've had the ELS Studio 3D Premium system in my Acura RDX - sounded horrible in the back.

This Lexicon system is no different...centered is too much up front, shift to the back and it sounds like, well, horrible.

I'm just assuming it's due to them being SUV's and have a vast area of wasteland in the back for the sound to overcome. I've just come to grips with it at this point.

That said, I have one car with a Harmon Kardon system (2 subs) and one with a Bang and Olufsen sound system (single sub) that both sound really good. The stock subs will shake the car...and I've needed to turn them down from the full setting. Not the case in any SUV I've owned.

I just noticed all these measurements are from BT🙄

Hate to break it to you, but Apple CarPlay is highly compressed audio, even if you have lossless or "high bit rate" turned on.
The spec from Apple is AAC, which maxes out at 256Kbbps over a wired connection, even less over bluetooth which is even compressed a 2nd time.

Put some lossless audio on a USB stick and report back.
It will be night and day!

PS: If you are using the EQ on your iPhone, CarPlay SHOULD ignore it as boosting bass on your phone and then again in your car may overdrive pre-amp inputs causing muddy sound, if not worse- distortion (aka clipping). And Dolby Audio has no effect over CarPlay unless you "force" all songs to be played in Atmos or not.... If the phone encounters an Atmos/Dolby song, it might claim it's playing in spacial or surround, but it's merely mimicking the effect. Spacial audio requires the system to know the position of your head so it can interpret and adjust the soundstage. It will still sound different, but better??? Subjective.... And adding in Lexicon's pseudo sound effects, will just add effect over effect... Again, subjective - but it's not working as the mixing engineers intended....

Only Android users and USB users get the pleasure of actually using the vehicles built in DSP, which is fantastic. In Android, by turning on developer mode, and setting it to PCM output you'll get fantastic sound.
Download some 96/24 on your Android, set it up right and it will sound as good as regular USB media...
BTW - I have no idea if Android Auto has any audio limitations, but in Android you don't have to use Android Auto - you can enable USB drive mode and it will work just like a USB stick/drive.

CarPlay uses the Phone's DSP versus the Lexicon's multi-dsp setup.

Interesting...I have Apple, now I'm bummed about my decision to give up on Android.

I checked my phone's EQ setting, it was on 'Late Night' (I don't remember selecting that??) I went to 'OFF' it obviously changed the sound but It still lacks the punch and sweet sound I prefer.

I'm currently Flat on Genesis EQ and using Reference.

Since CarPlay uses the phone's DSP, do you have a recommendation as to which setting to use?

The spec from Apple is AAC, which maxes out at 320Kbbps over a wired connection, even less over bluetooth which is even compressed a 2nd time.

Where did you find this information that CarPlay is highly compressed? Apples documentation states you can use CarPlay to listen to lossless audio.
Apple Support: You can listen to lossless audio with CarPlay using a USB connection.

I agree that wireless CarPlay uses a wifi connection to stream from your phone to the audio device and that wireless connection is limited to CD quality audio (16bit/44.1kHz), but the GV70 does not have a wireless CarPlay option unless a third party box is used. I have not seen where a wired connection using CarPlay is limited to anything other than the audio format. I would also state that in a moving car with the background noise of driving and other traffic that music at 24bit/192kHz is indistinguishable from CD quality. Heck only on the highest of home systems that easily outperform the Lexicon system would I say I could hear a difference between the two formats. I'd be shocked if the DAC in the Lexicon system and the speakers allow for an audible difference.

Again, I'm not saying wired CarPlay isn't limited, but I haven't seen specs stating it is so I wanted to ask for references so I can read and learn more.
