If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis just turned 2 years and 4 months old. 101,700 highway miles. Just stopped working out of the blue with no warning. Reverse works great but no drive. Hyundai stepped up and will cover new transmission, I have to cover labor. Apparently something new since long wait for transmission. Anyone else has had a similar problem? I hate to be a trend setter.

It good that they are covering the part cost, even though you slightly exceeded 100,000 miles (but looks like you have to pay labor). There were a fair number of 2012 Genesis transmissions replaced (first year of the Hyundai 8-speed), but not since then, and I don't recall many complete failures.

Good to know about 2012. Two week wait the transmission with $1800 falling on me is a lot better than 7k+ for parts. Still would think with only highway miles it would have lasted longer. Guessing they thought the same with no parts near south florida.

I don't think Hyundai employees in the USA know how to make repairs to that transmission built in Korea. They always seem to replace the whole thing if there is a problem. Good if it is under warranty, but a killer if not. Same with stereo system and also engine (except for external stuff).

Mine just went out to at only 22,000. And the tranny is on back order. I've been waiting almost a month and a half

Did you have the transmission fluid/filter change at approx. 80,000 miles? I have my transmission serviced about every 70,000 miles. No fluid is lifetime unless the lifetime estimate is 100,000 miles.

The dealer said two week delay, so sounds like they could be overly optimistic. Transmission they had in Atlanta was mislabeled. Never changed fluid. I asked several times but they told me wait. Wondering if earlier recall about moisture coming in back tail light and transmission sending wrong message (dash misreading park/drive) could be related. For me Reverse was no problem but drive just like neutral. As I remember I could push car out of spot while in drive.

How did it go out? Did it rev and then bang into gear?

Facing that problem right now. Mine is also a 2015 5.0.

Mine has 100,900 mi on it... at about 90k it had some intermittent weird shifting. Just had a drain & refill and had the filter/pan replaced - fortunately, the issues have greatly diminished in my case. I also count myself lucky that my indie mechanic didn't notice any metal in the filter.

I suspect that that the fluid probably only has a useful life of about 70k or so. In couple of months I intend to have it drained & refilled again to get the rest of the old stuff out.

Lifetime transmission fluid usually means it is good to about 100k miles as a rule. Therefore, change the transmission fluid as often as possible before it gets too old and causes excessive clutch wearing due to excessive heat from slippage. Old transmission filters can also reduce the fluid flow rate to the valve body(and pump) due to blockage caused by contaminates, which can also cause poor shifting and damage.

I need to change my transmission pan/filter soon as my 5.0 has 89k miles. I already performed a drain and fill on the transmission at about 70k miles.

Changed the filter and transmission oil at 98,000 kms. Shifts fine and will also do another filter and oil change at close to 190,000 kms. Currently at 151, 000 kms . 2015 G80 , 3.8 , Toronto .

True.

I have a 2015 Genesis 5.0 with a little under 80k and transmission went out without warning. I've been waiting for about 4 months now but the transmission is on national backorder. The transmission went out on the freeway at freeway speed. It failed to shift down and shut the car off. I had no breaks and no power steering. Very dangerous situation. I was able to pull to the side and put the car in park, it turned right on and could go in reverse but drive was stuck in 5th gear. At no point did the car throw any codes or check engine light or even go into limp mode.
Contacted Hyundai regarding all of this and because I didn't purchase it Certified Pre-Owned they told me they would not cover the repairs. I was quoted 9k+ depending on labor. I was charged $700 diagnostic fee, where they said there was major component failure. Luckily for me, I had purchased extended warranty and they are going to cover it. Anyone have a similar experience?

That's scary. Good thing your extended warranty covered it. My 2015 3.8 Ultimate is a cpo so the 10/100k cpo powertrain warranty is still good.

Any update on your backorder for the transmission? Trying to get an estimate of how long I'll be waiting on mine to be replaced, currently at 2 months of waiting with no updates from the dealership.
