  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Connected Services going away in December 2022

Can you give us some more specifics on the products. Model numbers, where to purchase it, who installed it?

Thanks
CSX9900AS Compustar 2-Way CSX Remote Start + Security W/ Drone LTE.
The main difference in the units are the remotes. I wanted to continue to use my OEM fob.
It was installed by Alarmtronix out of Milwaukee, but any Drone Mobile certified installer could do it. I think dronemobile.com has a search function for installers.
Another plus was I no longer have the flashing hazards after Remote starting. Now my parking lights only come on. I specifically requested that though, otherwise it would have been the Genesis default.

MrRich4, In your original post you mention you can start your G80 with the original key fob. How does that work? In the information I have found online so far, it looks like it's done with a new key fob.

I hit the Lock button 3 times and it starts. Unlock 3 times and it turns off.
If you want the 2 way data, then you'll need a special fob or Drone Mobile, where you get confirmation and status updates on your phone.

On the older cars it is not their fault. The newer models should have had 4G modems as part of the design. The 4G/LTE was available in 2010 so given the typical lead time in the auto industry, cars from about the 2014 MY should have had the new technology.

I don't see how a third party starter could void the warranty unless it actually causes damage to something.
Many makers had this problem, only Genesis decided not to bother offering a workaround, which was clearly possible as all of the other makers came up with one.

I agree that this situation is shameful for Genesis but when you resort to exaggeration it destroys your argument. IONLY Genesis is incorrect and ALL. OTHER makes is equally incorrect. There are more than a few brands that don’t have a fix. LIST: Is your car losing features in the 3G conversion?

I know with the GM cars that did get a fix, the modem module was a separate item in the trunk and could be easily replaced. The Genesis I belive is built into the head unit and would have to have a complete replacement of that head unit. Price difference is quite a bit and probably is a factor in Genesis not updating the cars.

Hello everyone, new to the forum here. I’m looking to purchase a 2019 G80 and I’m talking with the dealer and doing my research came upon the same issue about connected services no longer being available. I even called up Genesis and the customer service was great and the lady looked up the vin of the car I’m interested in and confirmed it will not be supported at end of 2022. Sounds like the connected services that won’t work are any of the remote controls, SOS, and a handful of other things. I was told voice on NAV will cease working, but NAV can continue without voice.

Any input from the group on how serious this loss of connected services will be is appreciated.

Thank you!

Mesker

I've been without connected services for a week and a half now.

The remote start was my biggest concern.
Also being able to check the status of the car. Both were solved with an aftermarket solution detailed above.

Navigation works fine without connected services.
I like some of the look of the Genesis GPS but I almost always use Android Auto and Google Maps.

The diagnostic report was cool in theory, but in 2+ years of ownership, I didn't need it once.

This is the Hyundai site and it works for my Genesis. Give it a try and let us know.

I just purchased a 2018 Genesis G80 last week and have been on the forum reading about Connected Services going away in December. Without ever experiencing all the benefits mentioned with Connected Services, the one I am most concerned about is the remote start (although I will probably purchase one of the remote start options and have it installed instead of paying for a monthly service forever). That being said, I have tried the VIN lookups mentioned in this thread and the VIN lookup on the Genesis site did not work for me either. The Hyundai site says my VIN is not affected. I'm not sure I trust the Hyundai site when it does not mention Genesis on it and I find it strange when it sounds like all 2018's are affected on the Genesis site.

The VIN lookup didn’t work for me on the Genesis website either. I phoned their customer service and a lady looked up the vin. I’d paste the phone number here but I didn’t record it-fairly easy to find on their site if you want to spend though.

It;s pretty simple for 2018 G80.
9.2" screen (jog controller on console) = No more service after December.
8" screen = Service continues for you.

Sounds like good news for me, I dont have the controller on the console. Mine is touch screen. Thanks!!

This link has been posted before by others and myself. Put in your VIN. It works but no guarantee it’s accurate

Just to be clear, the 9.2" is a full touchscreen as well.

Hello All,

I have a 2017 G80 ultimate and my connected service will be ending in December as well. I looked into see if the head unit from a newer model year with LTE could be swapped and it will not work. I know someone that works for Hyundai that was able to confirm this. I also went to after market car audio installer and no company makes a dash mounting kit for my Genesis. I looked at Dronemobile and I plan on purchasing it soon. If you visit dronemobile.com you can view the different annual plans with a description of what is covered in each plan. I believe one was $70 and the other was $120 per year. Much less than the Genesis connected service. I am curious if anyone knows if the Navigation will continue to work after December? Will Genesis continue to make and provide the Navigation updates? On my 2017 I need to order the SD disk from Genesis and insert it into my system for the update. I can't download it like some newer models.

Navigation will continue to work. I let my subscription lapse since the end is near anyway and had a remote starter installed. I like the instant start and not going through remote servers and the need for cell phone signal. No annual subscription.

Only thing I miss is the "Send to Car" feature.

Yes, of course it will still work. It's not related.
Yes, they will continue to provide map updates for as long as they choose to do so, again it's not related.
You do not have to order an SD card from MapNSoft. You can download the updates from them (on your PC) and write them to your own SD card, or one from a previous update, and use that.

You can download the installer program. Once you do that, for future updates just start the program and it knows where to go and does everything you need.
For an SD card, just use one of the old ones you probably already have and it will reformat as needed.

I can see that, especially since two things were in place before our cars were made 1) 4G technology, and 2) the FCC announcement of the end of 3G.

In other words, Genesis put this technology into the cars knowing it would expire long before the car did - and then touted these features to sell more cars.

I guess in some ways we're lucky that Genesis uses Verizon cellular. They are the last of the major carriers to shut down 3G.

Per Verizon -

"Since 2016, we have stated publicly that we are actively decommissioning our 3G CDMA network. Initially, we announced we would close down our 3G network in 2019. However, we extended our shut off date - first to the end of 2020 and now to the end of 2022 - in order to care for our customers and give them every effort to minimize disruptions to their service as they move to newer and more advanced technologies."

I agree. Has potential for a law suit. Terrible service for an up and coming “luxury” car brand. I love my 2018 g80 sport, best car I’ve ever owned. That said, I will not purchase another Genesis if they do not offer a real solution to this.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I've decided to go 3rd party with the remote starters. There are a few nice ones I've already scoped out which duplicate most of what I use connected services for. Some installers can also add missing features like turning the seat warmers/coolers on when starting the vehicle. Plus control with your fob or an app.
Please share here. Thanks!
