  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've had the car for 2 years now, sunroof has been disconnected the whole time. I plugged it back in and went to open in and noticed cracks on the track, I plastic welded the cracks. Now it tilts up perfectly fine but when I try to open it up it doesn't do anything. Is this a motor issue or something I missed?

Typically the plastic guide tracks fail. When this happens the roof can get stuck open. Best to keep it closed until it's fixed.

Track has been fixed, unless there's a piece farther back under the headliner that I can't see

Just so we know for sure, did you check to see if any fuses are blown?

Also, I'm curious what kind of epoxy or plastic weld you (or someone else) used to fix the tilt tracks. Mine is doing the exact same thing. I was thinking of just trying JB Weld, but if there are better ideas out there, let me know.

All the fuses are good, the peg that runs in the tracks moves the full track on both sides and will tilt the glass up and down to go into the roof/open but it stops there and wont do anything maybe it's a gear issue? Haven't got into that yet. But I used jb weld plastic bonder, had to do it twice (didn't wait long enough before trying it) but it held fine the second time.

Any details on the symptoms - does it sound like the motor tries to run at all? Any audible "clicks" in the sunroof, behind the dash, etc? Any hints of a motor response if you hold the switch in the OPEN position while smacking the control panel and/or ceiling area?

There are probably limit switches at each end of the sunroof travel that either tell the controller "fully open" or "fully closed" or sometimes they directly cut power to the motor. If one of those is screwed up the sunroof won't work properly... very similar to the issues folks have with the tilt/telescoping steering wheel and seat motion. The sunroof expects the "tilt" mode to be fully closed before it engages the sliding "open" mode so if the "tilt" switch/sensor is bad the sunroof won't respond to the normal OPEN switch. Make sure the sunroof is fully closed from the tilt mode; as you close the tilt hold the switch and listen to see if the motor seems to try to run after the glass is fully closed/un-tilted. If so, that's a sign the tilt closed sensor/switch is not working correctly. Listen for clicking from plastic gears trying to turn (and stop immediately if you hear this before the gears get stripped!) or a buzz from a motor.
