If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How to get Apple Carplay/Android Auto in a 2015-2016 Genesis Sedan Ultimate (9.2" Screen) - KPLAY

You have access to AM/FM radio and Sirrus on the unit in the CarPlay or Android Auto mode so you don't use access to them. The unit does come with a backup camera but I wouldn't bother hooking that part of it up as that would mean running cables all the way through the car to the back.

I suppose you could mount it on the dash or window so you could see the backup camera on the stock screen. Personally I would just leave it covering the stock screen as I would just look over my shoulder when backing up, the way everyone has done it for all these years before backup cameras came into use.

It's still a hassle to hook it up with the wires each time I use the car for small local trips like store runs so I would only use it on longer trips where it would be useful. For some people the advantages of having CarPlay or Android Auto would far outweigh the loss of seeing the backup camera, for others the backup camera trumps everything else so different strokes for different folks.

Think I may take a chance on the KPlay than to go that route.... From what I've seen on YouTube, the Genesis dash comes apart pretty easliy. There's a guy that put one in a K900 & it didn't look that tough - especially if you've put in car stereos before.

Sorry to revive this thread, but If you ended up getting the kplay kit. How did it go? I just got a 2015 ultimate and I am amazed the headunit doesnt have android auto etc... already.

There's been a couple of members here that have gotten it and it works well - Don't recall any "install" threads though. Somebody put up a YouTube video of it in action...

Yeah the kia k900 video was fairly comprehensive, but I wouldn't want to have the extra boxes in my glove compartment like he ended up doing. It may be a necessary evil though. Would love to know how things are routed on OP's install.

It's not listed on their site, but this would also work on my Equus Ultimate I presume?

Can someone here tell me the part # of the 2015 ultimate 9.2 inch radio and a picture of the connectors on the back of the radio ?

I received my HK CARPLAY2 10w unit today, I ordered Nov.11 2022, it took 10 days to arrive, using the cheaper EMS shipping option, I was surprise how quick it got here. I will install it myself in a few weeks. I ordered the extra LVDS cable. @Suburbazine do I need a right angle cable, one did not come in the package ?.

It depends on the factory the car was built at. I recommend getting it regardless, but you'll only know when you pull the screen out.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
@Suburbazine ,I'm installing my kplay2, but I can't get the long press or touch screen to work, I get the android auto screen up, but the touch screen only toggle the car menu
Maybe one of the dip switches isn't in the right position... The documentation w/ this thing isn't the greatest.

I think the dip switch setting is ok.
dip Switch settings,
1 OFF 2 OFF 3 ON 4 OFF 5 ON 6 OFF 7 ON 8 ON 9 OFF 10 OFF
The reason touch screen wasnt working, I was seeing kplay rca video on my screen and didnt realize it wasnt kplay lvds signal. I was able to get get it working using the press button, but long hangup press or reverse detect not working, and both those feature uses can connections, I double check my can connections, for now it working without those 2 features, I will get back to it at a later date. While I was at it I installed I usb 3 port usb charge socket, replacing 1 of the 12v lighter socket, replaced the 2nd 12v lighter socket with aux / usb port connected to kplay, I also added a rear 3 port usb charge socket and recycle 1 12v lighter socket in the rear also, came out real good. 1670729219499.webp

If you're clicking through to the car menu when you see the KPLAY interface, it means the interface module is not correctly intercepting input from the LVDS cable. LVDS only carries touch signal from the screen. If you do encounter issues with touch going through to the head unit sometimes, it means the kplay module needs to be rebooted or is overheating.

Reverse not working means the interface module dip switch isn't set correctly. Reverse video (composite) and trigger are in the large wire harness, not CAN. They're independent of the head unit entirely, too. You need to set 4 to ON.

Long hold to switch the only CAN feature, so make sure you literally spliced red and blue wires to red and blue multimedia CAN wires. I think I got them from the module directly behind the screen.

I got a different video interface with can unit, switch 4 ( reverse detect ) can be either wire or can as per installation manual, see doc.

But the car can't do rear detect on CAN. There is no rear video bit sent on CAN on the multimedia network. I'm pretty sure the only car capable of CAN reverse is the K7.

The instructions are terrible- that's not an either-or option. Also, that's the same interface anyone else gets, only the KPLAY module has been changed.
