Okay so title. I mean when I hop on the highway I’ll pop on adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist and I’ll let the car steer itself sometimes, while paying attention and even holding the steering wheel most of the time. Sometimes I’ll even let it do it on suburban roads with good lane markings. However, am I overlying on the lane assist by letting it do most of the steering for me? I mean sometimes I’ll take my hands off the wheel briefly just to test it, but then put my hands back on within a few seconds, and I don’t play with it at all if there’s a car next to me or coming up next to me. I had my mom with me and she did not feel safe with me even using lane assist with my hands firmly on the wheel. So am I over relying on it and I need to backdown or are some people just scared of driver assist? She argues it takes your focus off the road if your enjoying and playing with your driver assist and makes you unprepared for emergency situations (which I guess could be true technically).

I've not found it accurate enough, especially on curves to rely on it. I played on one road with some gentle curves and it followed precisely, but with the wheel on the centerline.

What is important is to pay attention and be ready to react. With no other cars around you can relax a but.
Two days ago about 10 miles from me a cow got loose and wandered on to the road. Driver hit the cow, flipped his SUV and he is now dead. So is the cow. Pay attention.
 
First thing I do is turn off lane assist. Personally, I like to "hug" the lanes when there are no vehicles around. Adaptive cruise control could be very nice on long trips. I haven't used that neither.

Adaptive cruise is fantastic on long trips. A couple of times a year I make one and it is not sightseeing, I just want to get there. I can do 800 to 900 miles in a day and not be tired. I can move my right leg around, not be stuck on a pedal. Sure, sometimes you have to take control but it is a big help.

Also one of the greatest inventions ever in those miles-long, stop-and-go freeway back-ups. Just amazing.

I am starting to get away from using the lane keep or whatever they call it on the Genesis. But the Adaptive Cruise control, I love it and can't leave without it. My Audi had a feature called traffic assist. When you were in bumper to bumper traffic the car would stop and start mimic the car in front of you. I am not sure if the Genesis does this, as I have not been in traffic since I got it. Does this car have it? I have that auto parking and I have not used that yet either.

It will come to a full stop if the car in front stops. If that car starts moving again in a few seconds, then it will resume as well (be warned it will follow right through a stop sign). If the car stays stopped for over a couple of seconds, then you car will not resume without you pressing the gas or the resume button.
 
I use mine all the time but I don't rely on it. I know what the limits are. HDA wasn't good enough so I installed OpenPilot that I had on my 2015 Genesis, I just transplanted the hardware into my G90.

I took a road trip in the G90 from Vancouver, BC to Las Vegas and it was the easiest road trip I've ever done. All I did was sit in the car and watch the road for upcoming situations that OpenPilot wouldn't be able to handle like traffic cones, potholes, car next to me getting too close, etc. I did 12 hours easily and I wasn't tired at all. I could've kept going but I got to my half way hotel in Boise, ID. Openpilot is hands off as long as you're looking at the road.

I had no idea how fatiguing it is just to manually keep the car in the lane. I've done the same trip many times before without lane centering and I would always have to buy energy drinks to stay awake.
