  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2020 G70 AWD. Is there a way to temporarily disable the power trunk feature?
If I have an over-size load in the trunk (long pieces of lumber, a Christmas tree, etc), I'd like to be able
to partially close the trunk, then use a tie down to secure the trunk in a semi-open position.

Why disable it? It's designed with this possibility in mind. Put the stuff in the trunk, then press and hold the trunk button on the dash. Release it when the trunk lid contacts the stuff that is hanging out. I would still use the tie down too.

Thanks, I'll try that. I thought it would just reverse to the full open position when it encountered the "obstruction".

It will stop where it is when you release the button.

What? The G70 just came out with power trunk in 2023, and on the top trim 3.3T only. Or did it have it before? Didn't know that. I'm in the US.

Things that are standard or optional features change from year to year. It was available, then it wasn't, now it is again...

It's always been available at some trim level. I have a 2021 G70 and it's there. Some years I believe it was standard for all trims. Even my 2015 G80 has it.......and so did my 2015 Sonata. They wrinkle with things from year to year however, like rear heated seats.............got those too though :)

Yes, you can shut it off.

That's not correct, at least for 2022s. I bought a fully-optioned top trim 3.3T Sport Prestige (returned it), and it did NOT have a power up/down trunk.

My 2020 3.3T Sport has it. I just recently turned it off on the dash control display because every time I walk out into my garage it opens as I make my way around rear of the car LOL

Do you really need to lock your car when it’s in your garage?

? That has nothing to do with it. It opens when you get close with the key 🤣

Now when I walk near it not longer beeps and opens.

Sorry, mine only opens when locked. I didn’t realized they changed this functionality. I like mine better.

Just to be clear here, two completely different things are being talked about.

You are talking about "smart trunk." That is the feature that opens the trunk when you are behind the car with the key, if the car is locked. You can have that feature whether or not you have the "power trunk" feature that this thread is actually about.

"Power trunk" - A motorized trunk that can close itself, as well as open itself.

Nah I was clear in my response.

I said I had it and I added I shit it off so it wouldn’t open when I walked by.

Sorry my post was confusing but it was.

Never knew you could control the car that way. Not sure I want the details though.

Yeah it’s in the options in the dash display screen. I am unsure where but it’s I believe in the same place you can make the doors unlock when you stop and put it in park. It’s there though because I shut it off right away after years of hating it.

I disabled long ago. Same reason.
