Post-purchase Window Tinting

Just bought a 2020 G90. It will be garaged in Naples, FL. I would like to get the windows tinted. Looking for pros and cons as well as suggested options -- what to avoid?

Pick a good reputable shop. Make sure to get ceramic tint. As for how dark that is up to you or stay legal at 30% or higher. I also had my windshield tinted to 70% so I would not have to use a sunshade. At 70% you cannot even tell it is there.

One decision depends on your age and eyesight. Legal is about 30% and looks good from outside. I went with 50% because i want better vision at night. Still looks good and reduces sun load.

Go with a ceramic. Your shop should have sample of the various tints so you san see what it will look like.

OK, I looked up ceramic and saw a shop here that does Llumar ceramic with good ratings.

OK, thanks. Florida law says 28% light being admitted is the limit for side windows; windshields cannot be tinted; however, the clear material has value in heat reduction, I am told. Not sure it is worth $200 to do the front windshield, I can afford it, just not sure of the value of doing so.

If your getting your car at the Naples dealership, you can get your tinting through them. It might be done by the same shop your going to. And don't pay what they want. You can deal with them The dealer gets a much better price that you do. I have a friend that owns a tint shop and he had a deal with a chain of car dealers, they pay less than 1/2 of what a walk in customer pays.

Thank you, I will check it out with the dealer. Previous posts have told me to get ceramic from a good shop. Perhaps my dealer will tell me who they farm it out to and what products are being used.

I can't speak for DaleNet, but a lot of people who have their windshields tinted opt for 70%-90% film which is not too noticeable. I don't have it but did consider getting it done but in the end, decided against doing it.

How did you get around that tinted windshields are not permitted in Florida?

I just made sure I did not get a tint that would show I obviously have it tinted. To be honest, my front windows are not legal either. I had them matched to the tint on the back windows, so they are at 25%.

Funny thing is the new ceramic tint does not seem to be that dark. I had a car tinted to 30% long ago when it was just color tint and hated it. It was way too dark to see through at night. I do not have the same issue with this ceramic tint.
