Smart Trunk

My 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 sedan Smart Trunk is no longer working. As I approach the car with the proximity key, there is no beep nor trunk opening after 3 seconds or so after numerous attempts. I checked the settings in the Dash and Smart Trunk is checked as active. I tried unchecking and then checking the box to no avail. All the doors are locked and windows are closed. The trunk opens using the key fob and the trunk release pad. As I approach the car, the car recognizes the key fob and the mirror lights come on. I tried my other key fob and still the problem remains.
I was thinking maybe there is a proximity sensor near the rear bumper that has gone bad that controls this feature.

After doing some homework searching the interweb, I found what appears to be how the trunk opens with the FOB in your pocket.
There is a Smart Key sensor behind the rear bumper cover that communicates with the system electronics. Hyundai Part # 95420-B1200 is
the smart key antenna assembly. The trunk valet switch must be in the unlock position, doors closed and locked, the smart key trunk box needs to be checked in the dash display and it needs to be at least 10-15 seconds after car is locked.
I can open the trunk with the FOB and the interior trunk switch, mirror lights illuminate and exterior rear trunk release pad works.
Replacing the Smart Key antenna seems the least expensive option to take.

The most difficult part is removing the rear bumper.

I would first try to reset the system by removing the negative battery terminal off the battery in the trunk for about 15 mintues and then reconnect the terminal to battery. Hopefully the hard reset may set thing right with your power trunk system. This option is free.

I followed your advice by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and the smart truck now functions as designed.
This has absolutely saved me from a dealer visit and an unnecessary bill.
I guess like any computer system, if you have an issue reboot.

If I remember correctly, it only came w/ the Ultimate package.... If you have that, you're good to go.

I think you are thinking of the POWER trunk, not the smart trunk ( which is on all Genesis cars)

Pretty sure Smart Trunk is an Ultimate only item....

Power trunk = motorized opening and closing of the trunk.
Smart trunk = trunk opens if you stand behind the car with the smart key while the car is locked. That is just a little software added to the smart key system. (non-powered trunks just unlock) I'm also pretty sure they all have that, while only ultimates of some years may have the power trunk.
