  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

its been hot , oh about 85-90 the Genesis was out side. We just ran to the store and I open the compartment on the console for where the lighter is ( I keep stuff in there ) and it was hot to the touch. the entire console felt hot.
I have never noticed this before . Have just under three thousand miles on the car.

what do you think this is ?

I keep my cell phone and wallet in that little compartment. The ash tray has been converted to a coin collection as well. With that being said, I have noticed things becoming hot in those areas but only sporadically. I haven't been able to dissect the reason behind it.

My mailbox keys live in that compartment. The ashtray is gone and my little rechargeable LED flashlight lives in the lighter socket. At over 100 degrees, the keys are almost too hot to touch.

I don't notice any amount of heat elsewhere on the console, though.

I had a similar issue after having the car about 2 weeks, finally realized that the rear vent had been set on hot and there was hot air blowing through it. Not sure how it got turned on or how it was set to hot but between it blowing hot air and the temps in the high 90s everything in my console was HOT.
The AC also works better when you are not blowing hot air in the back seat as well.
:)

This center air outlet on the early Genesis' sometimes go to HOT all by themselves. It is my understanding that the later Genesis' have indents, or clicks on the hot/cold knob and if so, it probably will stay where you set it.

In my case, my hot/cold know was going to HOT all by itself. At first, I thought I had done it, but after a few time, I found that it would go to HOT without any help from me. Rather than having my dealer deal with it, I just cut a small piece a cardboard from a match book, and placed it between the housing and the adjusting wheel. Can't see it unless you look for it, and it keeps the adjusting wheel from moving by itself. I can still move it when I want it moved. What I've been doing is I just keep it on cold, and when I drive in a cold climate, (Penfield or Roswell) I just shut the rear center airflow off and let the heat come from the edges of the "B" Posts, and from the front area.
