  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all. Recently acquired a 2020 g70 prestige rwd 3.3t CPO.

When I was test driving it, I thought there was a protective film on the screen or something. I went to remove said film today and realized there's just a distortion in the screen. Will attach photo.

Please help if you've seen this before. Not sure if I'm going to have to replace the screen or what.

It is a protective film that is part of the screen. There is plenty of posts on this issue. If you have a warranty, you need to talk to the dealer. Regardless, you should talk to the dealer.

Okay, thank you. I've texted the sales guy. Will try the actual dealership if I don't hear from him anytime soon.

Between this and the useless "delivery specialist" failing to understand my issue activating connected services or using the digital key, I'm starting to wonder if this was a good purchase. Loving the car overall but hating the customer service from the dedicated dealership.

Yes, customer service can be a bit trying, but the vehicle is worth it in most cases. You should be able to get through the issues.

That's touchscreen LCD delamination. Not uncommon with all these slabs that are in every single car center dash. The '19 CX-9 I had did that when it was barely 2yrs old. Mazda replaced the whole tombstone under factory warranty, no questions asked. I would expect no less from Genesis. If I were you, I wouldn't let them give you any lip, especially on a CPO car.

The same thing happened to the infotainment screen in my 2019 G70 this past summer and the screen was replaced under warranty. The dealer said they replaced the entire head unit, but I have my doubts as all of my nav/SXM/HD radio data was intact...
Enjoy,

Lol I doubt the data is backed up in an LCD. There's storage somewhere else, so yes if they replaced your LCD your data shouldn't get wiped..

Edit: to clarify, they replace the whole head unit. Not just the LCD screen inside.

I also had this problem happen last summer and the dealership ended up replacing it under warranty. It started with a little corner then very quickly turned into a long line like yours. I hope the new screens don't do this again after another 2-3 years but it's very possible they do...

Saying the head unit indicates they replaced the radio and everything associated with it. Not just the screen. The OP is saying they clearly just replaced the screen. Good reading comprehension lol

They don't just replace the screen. The whole head unit comes off as one piece. This is a dealership buddy, they don't carefully remove the LCD only and replace it. So you're not understanding correctly when I said the storage is not located in the head unit..

The screen literally does come off as one piece. Have you ever... Worked on a car before?

No. The display assembly with the LCD, is separate from the headunit! Go and look at the parts breakout for the car. You can order the monitor (display assembly), or the headunit, two different parts.

Good point. I take it back 😅

Thanks all

To some extent, the screen does have to be matched to the head unit. This is true for the Stinger as well, which came in a couple of different sizes of LCD touchscreens. There is a guy that has done infotainment system swaps with used parts bought on ebay. He said the model# of the screen has to be compatible with the model# for all the functions to work. So a NAV head unit might not work 100% with an LCD touchscreen that is from a car without NAV.

That said, since we are talking about a dealer service department replacing a defective LCD touchscreen, they should be able to order the correct part number to work with your existing head unit, so they wouldn't need to replace the HU too.

Same issue in the Fall of 2024 on my 2019 G70. Dealer replaced under warranty.
