  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It's more than frustrating using the app to start my car, especially when it doesn't work. Now that my lease is up they want $10/month for something I use maybe 3 months out of the year. What bothered me even MORE was when I had a loaner. ALL NEW MODELS have the remote start on their fob FOR FREE yet anyone with older models has to pay. When I spoke to corporate the rep said we needed more complaints. If enough people voice their frustration she said there is a way for them to make the app have PAID services as well as FREE services. Lets all tell them how crazy it is to pay for something that should be free. My son has a Kia and can start his car from his key FOR FREE.

You can always add a aftermarket remote start. Compustar would be the best choice. You can have 2-way confirmation fobs from 3000ft to 3 miles of range with no monthly, or pay $3 to $6 per month for the phone app with unlimited range, with longer runtimes. They can also be transferred to a different vehicle.

Why pay for something when it should be FREE as it is in every other model year. Makes no sense to pay a shit ton of money for something thats already installed in the car and the app can be reconfigured.

How would you reconfigure the app? It uses Genesis servers to send the signal and the car returns it to the server to acknowledge to you. So, you need some sort of singal sending device. May be possible, I don't know.

Also mentioned is many models have the starter on the fob. I believe that has limited range. Fine if car is sitting in the driveway on a cold morning, not sure how far it goes.

I've never started my car 1000s of feet away. For the house and work is fine for me. All the other features I never used and is useless. Sad to see people who purchased in 2019 are shafted while the newer owners have it on a fob

I put a Conpustar in mine. Only regret is not doing it from day one as it is more reliable than the app. At times I'd start well beyond the fob distance though I never check what that really is.

Some brands are worse. Subscription to use the heated seats you paid for in a BMW. Not in US yet though.

I remember when Lexus enform was charging $359 a year to use thier remote start subscription.. and if you didnt pay for it, they would disable the remote start on the fob also. (n)

Remember... You can't look at newer models and complain about features included in new models but not in the old.

Your older model G70 is what it is, as is mine.

There is not going to be a revolution of complaints to corporate to change a feature on a car that is not even for sale any more. Pay the premium, buy aftermarket, buy a new G70, or suck it up.

I spoke to someone from corporate and they have many complaints about the same issue. Also with my bmw I never had to pay to start my car and I also had heated seats.

The BMW heated seat subscription is exactly why having physical buttons (switches) for some features is actually better for the consumer. If all features are controlled by the infotainment system, the manufacturer can easily lock out consumers and push subscription BS.

Alternatively, switches allow consumers the bypass option. For example, my 2018 F150 had the auto start/stop BS that Ford rolled out on their vehicles. There was a switch above the infotainment screen to disable it. However, it was enabled by default. The switch had to be pressed everytime the vehicle was started. I pulled the switch out and added a jumper wire to permanently disable it. Took 10-15 minutes.

These days, physical switches are still connected to electronic modules running software, just like the touch inputs are. Often, then can still lock you out, even with physical switches.

There's a difference.

Wouldnt surprise me in 10 or less years, there will be a black market of disabling the 4G modules and module programming on cars to regain freedom and features lol. With everything going from one time pricing to subscriptions with any company or industry of that matter.

Although this will be tough with manufacturers starting to use locked ECU's and rolling security algorithms on different control modules to secure the data, i still believe it will be a cat and mouse game.

I just want to start my car 3 months out of the year wo paying a stupid fee when it should be free.

I agree with you.
even the women in corporate who answered the phone stressed how irritating it is. She said when there are a certain amount of complaints on the same topic, then Genesis will address the issue.
