  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Auto Hold Problem

On my S550 I did actually use the Auto Hold feature. It was a lot better than the Genesis for this function. In the S550 when you are stopped at the light, all you do is just push the brake pedal a little further in a quick pulse and that sets the Auto Hold. It is really slick.

What makes you think it doesn't?

When I read in the owners manual or other Hyundai literature, it says that the Auto Hold feature used the parking brake to hold the car. I read it over and over and kept thinking how stupid that is instead of using the hydraulic brakes.

But - if it does use the hydraulic brakes, then Hyundai cannot write their literature correctly - which is just as stupid, just in a different way. lol

When I read in the owners manual or other Hyundai literature, it says that the Auto Hold feature used the parking brake to hold the car.

When you engage the parking brake, you can hear an electric motor run for a bit to engage the ebrake. The process takes a second. When you stop at a light with the auto-hold on, I don't hear the same ebrake engagement process. And the auto-hold engagement is instantaneous, not like the ebrake.

That is good to know. It also means that Hyundai literature isn't correct.

Different companies use different methods to get Auto Hold to work. Yes, Mercedes does have you push a little harder on the brake pedal to turn it on "while the system is set on". BMW automatically sets the car in Auto Hold when you come to a complete stop if you have the feature turned on. Either way is fine with me - but the BMW way is actually easier. It's a no brainer 99% of the time. It just works.

But the same goes for Rain-Sensing Wipers. At least for me - they work perfectly. I haven't had to touch my wiper controls in years. I never need to adjust the speed or even turn them on. It's just automatic. And it works flawlessly. I don't even understand how they're more trouble for some people. I'm thinking it's an issue with the system in that particular car. Because it works as simply as a climate control system that turns on and off depending on the temperature you set in the car.

These features are designed to make your life easier. If they're making your life more difficult - there is a problem with the feature in your vehicle.

When I was driving last week from Los Angeles to San Francisco, the wipers came on when it was dry as a bone out. I noticed that the bugs on the windshield fooled the sensors somehow. I turned the switch off. Kind of funny actually.

All I can say is - "weak"! It's really sad if the Genesis rain sensing wiper system does that...

I don't know that it was the bugs. Once in a blue moon, I've had mine trigger for one swipe, out of no where on a dry day. I think maybe the angle of the sun and shadows sometimes (rarely) fools the sensor.

I've had no issues with the auto wiping and auto lights on the car. Both seem to work quite well and not having to touch the wiper controls or consistently adjust wiper blade speed depending on rain levels and speed is pretty slick.

That's happened to me once or twice, actually. But it's so rare that I'm not bothered by it. It basically never happens...

Exactly. I think some people get accustomed to luxuries slower than others. There are luxuries you don't really need - like a backup camera - but it's certainly nice to have. I see people on the internet complaining about the front and rear sensors that beep when you get close to another object. Sure. I know. We all know. We could live without it. But it's nice to have...

I love the camera and parking sensors. Every car should have them standard I believe just for safety. The auto wipers, don't really matter to me. But I live in SoCal where it never rains....

I have the same exact problem, But I have to turn off auto hold, put it in park and back in drive to turn the break off. Pissed off a few people behind me at a light with cameras. I was the only one who made it through by the time I figured it all out. Just all of a sudden? My dealer loves to say "there are no known issues with that" no matter what the problem is. So they will be looking at it Friday. 04/17/2015. Did you ever resolve your issue?

I have a '12 Genesis sedan 3.8 Tech Pack.

Had my auto-hold go out completely on my 2010. It's not unheard of.

Auto Hold Problem Solved!
It took three master Hyundai machinists and a phone call to figure out that it was the hood switch! Vehicle not reading hood is shut. The invoice says, installed 92736–3000 pad lid switch. Although he told me, one of the hood bumpers was missing and it wasn't making contact with the switch. $1.19 part.

Well that's good. At least it was a pretty simple fix. And a logical explanation as to what was happening. But I wonder how many other people this is happening to. Hopefully they do a search and find this discussion as a solution...

Hi! my auto hold came on. How do I turn it off?

Push the button? Not sure what your problem is. Do you mean it won't release? It should when you hit the gas pedal.

Ahh man glad I read this thread as I was sweating here.....I changed my rear brakes and for one I forgot that the damm rotors are side specific but will fit but the rotor screw holes do not lineup. Well while putting the rotor on i bumped the top of the rear parking brake shoe and it literally fell off.....

The damm shoe is GLUED ON man...ugh so I put some loctite and hoped for the best here. Took the car out for a ride and during each autohold event it would also engage the parking brake and I figured I was screwed. Little did I know that the hood was opened by me earlier and not closed down and that was the issue else I would have made an appointment and taken the car to Hyundai (might have to still lol).

Hi there mister. My car does exactly the same. Engages parking break as soon as I activate auto hold. Works fine in other gears. Might have to check this part.

DUDE I LOVE YOU!!!

I've checked the engine compartment and the thing is missing!

Picked up a random drunk homeless and asked him to hold the button down while I did the Auto Hold on D... it WORKED!

Also gave him some money.
